Chapter 5785 Calamity

“Give it back,” Long Chen said.

“Give what back?” The elder asked, looking at Long Chen's outstretched hand, his expression frosty.

“Mistress Yu Mo’s life tablet. You’ve recorded everything with a photographic jade. What more do you need it for?” Long Chen replied casually.

“How do you know?” The elder was startled.

“Enough of this. After living for so many years, can’t you be more efficient? Hand over the tablet. I have further orders. Whatever’s between you and Mistress Yu Mo is none of my concern. I just need to do what Mistress Yu Mo tells me to do.”

Hearing this, the elder hesitated. Long Chen was correct. The elder had recorded the scene as undeniable proof, ensuring Yu Mo couldn't go back on her word.

In the end, the elder relented. Long Chen walked off with Yu Mo’s life tablet. Once the elder was out of sight, Long Chen exhaled in relief. Facing the pressure of a mid-stage violet-crown Devil Emperor had been suffocating. Sweat trickled down Long Chen’s back.

Feigning weakness had been crucial. Because of this, Long Chen had paled his face and suppressed his devil qi, making it all seem authentic. And now, he had Yu Mo’s tablet.

At first, Long Chen had entertained the thought of using the tablet to raid the devil race's treasury. However, with Evilmoon infiltrating the altar, he decided not to push his luck. He should quit while he was ahead, or he might lose everything because of greed.

Other than that, Long Chen had held back because of Luo Yanfeng and the others, who were in a crucial phase of rapid growth. Though exhausted from battle, they would recover in mere hours and go to the battlefield again. If Long Chen did something dangerous, they could be affected.

Long Chen also considered the overall situation. Since the devil race's higher-ups were in a meeting, something was bound to change. It was best to be cautious.

Other than that, by leaving the battlefield, Long Chen couldn’t gather more Heavenly Dao Fruits. That was quite the loss to the Luo family.

Long Chen left the underground cavern and returned to the city. Making his way to the massive gate, he found the same elder standing guard.

When the elder saw Long Chen, his expression darkened. Just as he was about to curse, Long Chen casually waved the life tablet in front of him.

Long Chen said, “Old fogey, I’m now someone with status. If you dare to curse me, I’ll slap you in the face.”

“You...!” The elder was livid. Recognizing the tablet, he knew he had no authority over Long Chen anymore. Unlike the altar guardian, he was just a gatekeeper. Anyone carrying such a tablet was an existence he couldn’t provoke.

“What? Cat got your tongue? This lord is going out for a stroll. Mistress Yu Mo is vouching for me. What are you so afraid of? Step aside. I’m off to kill the devil race’s enemies,” Long Chen snorted, swaggering out of the city.

The elder’s face twisted in fury as he spat on the ground. Once Long Chen was out of his sight, he cursed, “Tch, what are you so pleased about?! You’re nothing but someone else’s plaything! Who do you think you are?!”

Even after cursing, the gatekeeper didn’t feel any better. He turned and saw a disciple returning from the battlefield. Without warning, he slapped the disciple, sending him flying.

The gatekeeper bellowed, “Line up properly! Don’t you know how to act?!”

The surrounding disciples shuddered in fear. The absurdity was obvious—there was no line to begin with. The elder was simply venting his anger on them.

Pow!

Long Chen sent a thirteen-vein Heaven Saint of the devil race tumbling with a slap.

“What are you looking at?! Are you trying to provoke this lord?!” Long Chen barked.

An old enemy had appeared before him again—one who had previously mocked him. When the fool sneered at him once more, Long Chen responded with a slap.

“You little brat, you are courting—”

Before the devil expert could finish, Long Chen’s finger pierced his skull. His body collapsed instantly.

The surrounding devil disciples stood frozen, their faces filled with shock and rage. None had expected Ying Wudao, whose only skill was fawning over women, to dare to kill someone here.

“You idiots got lucky. We’re too close to the city. Otherwise, none of you would leave here alive.” Long Chen pointed at them coldly before turning and walking away.

Long Chen still didn’t dare to cause too much of a disturbance here. After all, the devil race’s higher-ups were holding a meeting. If they were to be disturbed, he would be doomed.

Long Chen’s tyrannical display scared those people into not pursuing him. By the time they recovered, Long Chen was long gone. They hurriedly retrieved the corpse and rushed back to the city.

“Senior, bad news! Ying Wudao entered the battlefield and even killed one of us!” they reported to the elder.

“Shut the hell up. Don’t talk to me about that brat. Scram!” The elder’s suppressed anger exploded once more as he cursed them viciously.

The group was dumbfounded.

Their leader hesitated but still asked, “Senior, what about him killing one of our own?”

The elder snorted, “Go report it to your master if you want! If he cares, he can bring it up with Yu Mo. Now get lost and stop talking to me!”

The elder waved his hand impatiently. After all, the death of an ordinary disciple couldn’t cause any ripples between two branches of the devil race.

If someone killed their neighbor’s dog, perhaps the neighbor would turn hostile. But if they stepped on the neighbor’s ant, who would quibble about it?

The devil race had countless disciples, so they were using this opportunity to cull their weakest members, leaving only the true elites. The death of some small fry? It was entirely insignificant.

Hearing Yu Mo’s name, the group fell silent. She was infamous in the devil race for her ruthlessness, and even those at her level feared her.

This group dejectedly left with that corpse.

Meanwhile, Yu Mo was in a meeting, having no idea that a huge calamity was being carried out under her name.

Yu Mo sat with a serious expression, though her thoughts were elsewhere. She could only think about what she would do to Ying Wudao later. She was going to make him see stars.

The meeting was held in a cavern, where hundreds of the devil race’s strongest experts had gathered. Their leader, a three-eyed elder, radiated power. His third eye crackled with lightning, exuding immense pressure.

“Everyone, what do you think?” asked the three-eyed elder.

“We’ve tested out the violet blood race’s overall power. Since we are ten times stronger, there’s no need to keep probing. Otherwise, the situation might change. If they manage to contact reinforcements from another branch, our advantage could slip away. We should strike now before the situation changes,” said a dwarf-like devil elder.

“I agree. A full-force assault will crush them completely,” another expert added.

“There’s also the matter of the rainbow wing race,” the three-eyed elder said, shifting the topic.

In an instant, everyone started to whisper amongst themselves.

“The rainbow wing race cannot be allowed to live. We must wipe them out without leaving any evidence. Now that the nine heavens are fully connected, if they uncover this secret, they’ll annihilate us.”

“Agreed.”

“Agreed.”

“I approve.”

One by one, the voices echoed in agreement. Even Yu Mo, despite her reluctance, nodded. The decision was made—to eradicate the rainbow wing race and erase their existence from history.

Then—

Boom!

The cavern doors burst open. A messenger rushed in, his face pale.

“Not good! Just two hours ago, Ying Wudao escaped using Senior Yu Mo’s life tablet!”

“What?!”

Yu Mo’s face turned ghostly white.
