Chapter 1210 Symbols

Chapter 1210 Symbols

In the end, Khan opted to cross regulated areas of the universe to shorten the trip. As theoretically safer as the unregulated flight paths were, he felt time was the greatest variable and didn't want to be a slave to it.

The three remaining weeks of travel went down to one and a half, featuring everything Khan had predicted. His ship recorded that some allied vehicles and scanners had spotted him, but nothing ever tried to fly toward him. Khan didn't even receive any communication, hinting at a silent understanding with his forces.

In the last days of those one-and-a-half weeks, the ship returned inside unregulated areas, only for the scanners to finally capture a large, artificial structure. More criminal vehicles noticed Khan, but that was unavoidable since the destination had ultimately appeared in sight.

It took a few days, but the ship eventually sent clear images to its various screens. Khan had just finished completing the last preparations when the vehicle notified him, bringing him to the bridge and the figure standing before one of those detailed holograms.

Liiza wore a loose tracksuit while her glowing eyes illuminated a scarlet holographic screen. The latter featured a vast, metal landmass hovering through space, supported by thousands of thrusters lying under it.

The structure was nothing more than an immense black metal slab hanging among the dark canvas of the universe, but buildings littered its surface. Obscure domes of various sizes and shapes expanded over that artificial landmass, with most sharing edges and tunnels that connected them.

Khan had just finished wearing a pair of random trousers but was still naked above the waist, revealing extensive and intricate red war paint that stretched toward his legs. His torso, back, arms, and face looked covered in new tattoos, but nothing about them was ordinary.

Since the landing was imminent, Liiza had drawn the cloaking technique she had mentioned, succeeding at the first try. Khan didn't feel any discomfort wearing those extensive tattoos, but their effects were undeniable.

The technique didn't contain Khan's presence. It didn't even attempt to. It created an alternative circuit for his aura, which flowed through those intricate symbols instead of expanding outward.

Of course, the symbols carried specific meanings Khan couldn't even begin to translate, but one of their main qualities was evident. Liiza had added a drop of her blood to that paint, making it reek of her, and filling it with an alluring vibe Khan's presence couldn't help but follow.

That was why Liiza had been so confident in her technique. She was Khan's true weakness, a magnet his mana couldn't help but chase after. Liiza didn't need to force or overpower anything since her mere scent could redirect Khan's presence, making him look like a relatively ordinary fourth-level warrior.

If anything, Khan's main discomfort came from his shoes. He had been barefoot for so long he had forgotten how annoying and brittle they were, but his feet featured red symbols, too, and keeping them hidden was the wise choice.

"We have to dress up soon," Khan called, reaching Liiza's right side to inspect the holographic screen with her. "I prepared hoods and shades, but it's better to do some shopping once we complete the transaction with the Fuveall."

Khan's ship had all kinds of useful and situational equipment, but no hoods. He had made some poor imitations by tearing a few tracksuits apart, but that attire would tell any bystander that the couple had something to hide.

Lawless zones had no shortage of people who wanted to keep their identity a secret, but blending in while doing that was still possible, and appropriate clothes would help. Khan just needed to settle the issue with his phone first.

Liiza weakly nodded, but the holographic screen retained most of her attention. She wasn't a stranger to technology anymore, and the Kros' structure had also been quite a sight, but Merth 290 simply was on a superior level.

Khan couldn't help but imitate Liiza. As experienced as he was in those subjects, Merth 290 managed to give birth to some stupor anyway. Milia 222 had a more iconic architecture, but Merth 290 compensated for that with its sheer width.

Merth 290 reminded Khan of the Harbor, except that the place was far wider and had a different foundation. Hundreds of small and big domes basically covered the immense black landmass, promising a bustling environment comparable to Earth's mightiest cities.

The scene was messy and showed no real pattern. The many domes had no clear order or specific arrangement. They looked randomly built next to each other, like an immense patch of odd-shaped mushrooms that stretched as far as the black landmass allowed.

Still, that disorder didn't make the scene any less breathtaking. Those hundreds of different colonies were a statement to the universe's intelligent species' ability to adapt to any environment, even one as lifeless as that immense metal surface.

Khan mostly tried to predict what those domes hid, but awe, curiosity, and excitement captured Liiza, making her reach for the man at her side. She took Khan's hand, squeezing it to convey feelings he had already sensed through the mental connection. That promised to be a proper adventure for her, and she couldn't wait to face it with her husband.

"We'll have to turn off the scanners soon," Khan warned. "These places don't like to be recorded."

Liiza nodded again but managed to divert her gaze this time. She looked at Khan, inspecting his red tattoos to check whether everything was still working. The technique was perfect, but warnings were in order.

"It won't wipe out too easily," Liiza explained, "But I'll need to reapply it every few weeks. Also, you can break it if you put your mind into it."

"I'll try to be cool," Khan promised, "Even if I do enjoy watching you draw on me all serious and focused."

"You only had to whine for an hour over a single drop of blood to see that," Liiza teased, not refraining from reaching for Khan's lips.

"I didn't forget that your birthday is coming soon," Khan said, changing the topic once the kiss ended. "Let's deal with the important stuff before deciding how to celebrate it."

Liiza shook her head, but her sweet smile broadened. For once, she decided to let Khan have the last word, but she still took her revenge with a teasing look. Liiza knew they didn't have time for more intimacy, and watching Khan fall into a daze declared her the clear winner in that conversation.

"[I'll go get changed]," Liiza chirped, letting go of Khan's hand to exit the bridge, aware that his eyes followed her every move.

'I'll go crazy at this pace,' Khan realized without experiencing any desire to stop that process. Yet, duties forced him to divert his attention. It was finally time to land on Merth 290, and that required his hands to be on the steering wheel.
