Chapter 1248: Shatter
Iron Crown’s face was set in a deep frown, unusual considering who he was. His gaze was locked on the child god on the screen, and he was going over everything again and again in his mind.
’He negated the mana.’
They had all figured it out the instant it happened. They had even noticed when he had started trying to glimpse the world’s mana signature.
But the fact that they understood it didn’t make it any less jarring.
’How is this possible?’ That was the question ringing in all their minds.
Mana signatures were complex, extremely so. They weren’t things you could simply see and comprehend. What Atticus had just achieved couldn’t be stressed enough.
Copying the mana signature of a barrier was already considered advanced.
Copying the signature of another being was rarer still, only possible for a very select few, and even then, it took time and effort, like hacking into a heavily secured system.
Even copying the signature of a world was, though rare, still conceivable. But again, it was a process, one that required deep concentration and more time than a mere few seconds.
Yet… it had happened in those few seconds. Right in front of their eyes.
He didn’t just copy it. He reversed it.
’Who is this child?’
His battle with Dronvet was already forgotten. Their minds were fixated on the powers he had just displayed.
His will was too sturdy for someone his age. He had awakened a concept. And he could copy mana signatures as though they were nothing.
Even the representatives from the Middle Plane were staring at Atticus with baffled gazes, some of them now filled with a renewed, burning interest.
As the stars tried to grapple with the events, the realization slammed into them all at once:
’He’s a threat.’
Their eyes turned to Quiet Flame, their gazes narrowed. He had said it before, with so much confidence, that his god would win the Virelenna.
Now… now they understood the weight behind those words.
…
Atticus gazed at the spot where Dronvet had been. His will had enveloped Dronvet’s and absorbed it, yet Atticus couldn’t feel any increase in his own will.
’This is how far I can go on the lower planes.’
Atticus had figured something out during his battle with Dronvet.
’It’s very likely that the other gods are the same…’
His clashes with the gods were, at their core, battles of will. And right now, all wills were likely capped by the limits of the lower planes.
Which meant, when they fought, their wills would be mostly equal. Gaining the upper hand would come down to one thing, Concepts.
But this battle had opened his eyes.
He had thought himself invincible after defeating the Twins of Bloom and Blight, bolstered by the intensity of his burning will.
But clashing with Dronvet had shown him something else. There were other will types out there, ones that could act as natural counters to his.
There were too many unknowns.
’I have to be more careful.’
He had caught Dronvet off guard with the power of negation. In retrospect, if Dronvet had wrapped himself in his will from the start, his mana wouldn’t have been affected.
But the man had been so brimming with energy from his newfound strength, and Atticus had taken full advantage.
It was that momentary loss of speed that gave Atticus the window to pierce through his will.
Regardless, it had turned out for the best. And Atticus had learned something.
He turned his gaze toward the horizon. Since their titanic clash had ended, the fog had begun streaming back into the area. Still, he could make out figures battling in the distance.
’Aric.’
Atticus narrowed his eyes on the chaotic fight, and couldn’t help but smile.
’As expected.’
Aric was single handedly holding his own against three enemies. Their battle was cataclysmic.
Aric had taken on a form that could only be described as a beast of legends. It was as though he had selected the traits of various races to amplify his strength and speed.
A red glow wrapped around him, and every swing of his broadsword felt like the sky itself was collapsing.
Despite this, the champions of Surnix Hold were far from weak. Their arms blurred with speed, raining down blow after blow on Aric.
Atticus could see the bloody marks on Aric, it was clear he’d been injured. Still, his enemies weren’t faring any better.
The twin he had fought before had lost an arm, his body soaked in blood and sweat. Korosim and Nesera had gritted teeth, blood trickling down their mouths from earlier hits.
As Atticus continued to observe, he noted the tide of battle had shifted.
’Dronvet’s boost is gone,’ he realized. With the general dead, whatever power he had lent to his champions had faded. Now, they were left to face the monster that was Aric Stormrider, alone.
’As much as I’d love to let you have your fun, there’s no time.’
Atticus vanished, appearing before the beacon. He didn’t have time to wait for the battle to end. Who knew what else could arrive?
His katana flashed, sending a slash toward the beacon, but it simply absorbed the blow as if it were nothing more than a breeze.
Atticus narrowed his eyes. ’Ah… that’s probably how it survived all this.’
The beacon had ended up deep in a crater. Not a single crack marred its surface, despite the cataclysmic battle that had just unfolded between him and Dronvet. There was something special about it.
Still, Atticus had to figure out how to destroy it.
As he neared, he felt a sudden urge to touch the beacon. He didn’t resist.
The moment his palm grazed its blinding surface, cracks began to form from the point of contact, spidering out until they covered the entire structure.
Then, like fragile glass, it shattered into countless glowing pieces.
There was silence for a brief moment… before a voice that rocked the world echoed:
“The champions of Eldoralth have passed this scenario. Do you wish to be teleported to a waiting area or continue participating?”
Atticus furrowed his brow. He didn’t need to think.
“Teleport us to the waiting area.”
A blinding light enveloped him instantly, and without another word, he vanished from the fog drenched world.
