Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground
Chapter 1247: No ChancesChapter 1247: No Chances
As the orb of negation exploded, for a moment, it was as though time had stopped.
Despite the countless multitudes of attacks between them, Atticus and Dronvet’s eyes still managed to meet. And at that moment, nothing else seemed to exist.
In this stillness, Dronvet’s eyes filtered through different thoughts. He had seen the orb appear on Atticus’ palm. He had felt the effect it had on his mana. He had seen it explode.
It was swallowing his attacks. It was merely moments away from reaching him.
Dronvet thought of the hundreds of ways he could escape this scenario, his reflective shield, teleportation, anything, but they all died down the instant they were thought of.
He only had time to act after the sudden aura washed over him. And when that happened, none of them would work.
Dronvet thought about his life on Surnix Hold. He had married himself to the army. Devoted everything to it. He hadn’t married, nor had he birthed any children. If he fell here, he had no one to carry on his legacy. His blood would die with him.
The high marshal felt a wave of failure hit him. It was a terrible feeling, one he had seldom felt. He had worked so hard, devoted his entire life, and hadn’t even bothered to live it, only to fall here.
What was the point? Had it been worth it? If he had pursued his passion, would he still feel the same regret?
His world would most likely fall under the whims of this child god after his death. Was Atticus a good ruler? Or a tyrant? Would his people be in good hands? What would happen next? What happened after a god died? Did their souls get sent to heaven? Or was it hell?
The thoughts that streamed into his head at that moment were hard to fathom.
The incredible boost his current god form granted made it all the worse. And as the brownish aura reached him, his sprawling thoughts vanished, replaced by only one:
’I should have lived my life.’
The aura of negation washed over Dronvet, and it was as though a blizzard had slammed into candlelight.
Dronvet felt his mana turn docile. No matter how much he tried, he couldn’t control it.
His radiant armor dimmed until it dispersed into the air, revealing the sweat drenched Dronvet, eyes filled with dread, expression utterly shocked.
His mana had stopped responding. His eyes darted around, and he saw it. A small brownish dome had encompassed them. No matter how much he tried, he couldn’t control the mana in the air anymore.
’I still have my will,’ Dronvet reassured himself, clenching his fist. If he couldn’t control the mana, then Atticus couldn’t either. Now it was a battle of will.
Dronvet steadied himself and mustered every single ounce of focus he had left. His will surged upwards in a pillar of light, wrapping around him like molten steel.
He turned his determined gaze toward Atticus, and his heart froze.
Atticus’ golden eyes were focused on him calmly. It felt like the gaze an elephant would give an ant.
The crimson glow around Atticus suddenly began to recede, and Dronvet watched as it gathered into his right arm, the one holding the katana.
“W-what—” Before Dronvet could act, Atticus vanished. He caught sight of a piercing thrust tearing toward him just as the tip of Atticus’ katana made contact.
Dronvet felt an unimaginable pain assault him. It was as though his entire being was being ripped apart.
He turned his trembling eyes and saw Atticus’ katana piercing through his will, like a soldering flame through steel.
’No!’ His thoughts thundered, but he couldn’t even act as the katana pierced right through, driving straight into his heart.
Atticus watched as Dronvet’s gaze dimmed. He had pierced through his will, and the man would probably be unable to move. Regardless, Atticus wasn’t taking any chances.
He retracted his blade, and blurred, katana blurring with him. An unfathomable number of silver streaks ignited into life, each one slicing through Dronvet, shredding him apart into bits.
In the next second, he turned into nothingness in the air.
The battlefield fell into silence afterward, but the same couldn’t be said for the hall where the Eldorians had gathered.
Many were already on their feet, including Avalon, Oberon, and Jenera, clenching their hands tightly, eyes blazing as they watched the live footage.
He won. He fucking won.
“Did any of you have any doubts?” The question came from Avalon, and the others couldn’t help but chuckle.
The man couldn’t hide his excitement, but neither of them could blame him. They couldn’t hide theirs either.
Oberon and Jenera met eyes and smiled. For them, their excitement went far beyond the current fight Atticus had just won.
They had watched the entire battle and seen the dynamics. Atticus clearly still had more tricks up his sleeves! He had defeated the general god with such ease.
This fight had proven something to them, they had a chance to win the Virelenna. And if this was Atticus’ way of raising their morale, then it was seriously working.
Things were a bit different at the core of Torrevenos.
What they had just seen was truly shocking, but as stars, they had witnessed too much over the millennia to be easily rattled. The stars remained seated, but their expressions varied.
Quiet Flame didn’t bother to hide his smile. He periodically sent glances toward the other stars, reveling in their shocked state.
’I underestimated how good this makes me feel.’ Quiet Flame thought.
He had spoken those words cryptically earlier, intentionally provoking the egos of the others.
Because he had claimed that his sole god would win the Virelenna, they had all turned their attention to the battle, not to support, but to laugh when his god fell.
Only to be shocked by Atticus.
Quiet Flame couldn’t lie, he was currently enjoying the look on their faces.
Dreaming Sea and Crimson Hollow both wore expressions of disbelief. They were still trying to process what they had just witnessed.
But it was Iron Crown who Quiet Flame felt the most emotion from, even though his expression remained mostly composed.
