Chapter 3185: Evolved Nucleus

The nucleus of the evolutionary cell was remarkably similar to the nucleus of human cells.

They contained DNA, nucleolus, chromatin, and nuclear pores that all looked nigh-identical to the human nucleus.

There was one major difference.

“The nuclear membrane… is different.”

In human cells, the nuclear membrane was the boundary of the nucleus, and it had the important but relatively mundane purpose of holding together the nucleus of the cell and protecting all the DNA stored inside.

However, in the evolutionary cell, it had an additional purpose.

The internal side of the membrane facing all the DNA was equipped with strange little spike-like protrusions that lined across the entirety of the inner side.

Each protrusion was comprised of special chemicals.

Chemicals that were capable of producing photons in the process of certain chemical reactions.

Extremely small, but energetic photons of gamma radiation.

Pointed towards the DNA stored in the nucleus of the cell.

Rui’s eyes widened as he rapidly resurrected the cells, watching the chemicals in the cell return to how they would be when they were alive.

The cell membrane had an internal chemical system that could respond to chemical signals that came from outside the cell, reaching it through the cytoplasm. Different kinds of signals caused the cell membrane to shoot different gamma radiation through the spike-like protrusions lining the inner wall.

The gamma radiation was extraordinarily small.

A single photon.

It was a targeted and surgically precise tool that could alter DNA.

This was the mechanism by which evolutionaries edited their DNA in real time.

Their cells had evolved a nuclear membrane that didn’t just protect DNA stored in the nucleus, but also had mechanisms to edit said DNA.

Rui’s eyes lit up with great interest as he understood how this would work in regular civilian evolutionaries who didn’t cultivate adaptive evolution.

Most likely, when they were subject to extreme seasons with extreme temperatures, their brains and bodies would send chemical signals to all cells in the body, causing the gamma radiation mechanism to be triggered, thereby editing their cells and bringing about a genotype change that allowed them to become comfortable with said extreme temperature.

This was the condition that they had undoubtedly evolved to deal with the extreme temperature swings on the Moridia Continent, or so he had been told by Anthea.

There were those who went further in developing and enhancing this ability to weaponize it in combat.

Just how strong would he grow when he integrated this power into his Martial Body?

Just how strong would he be when he gave his Martial Body the power to edit its own DNA?

The very thought of it excited him.

RUMBLE…

The world shook as Rui’s drive and greed for this power only grew more and more intense.

If before he just desired the power, now he had decided that he absolutely needed to have it, no matter what.

This power was as important for him to achieve as the Primordial Seed.

“They can even be combined…” he mused with excitement. “Just how much adaptive evolution exists in a fusion between the Primordial Seed and evosapient biology?”

He couldn’t even imagine any limits.

With these two powers combined, he could truly become anything.

He could truly alter the very root of his existence to become absolutely and literally anything.

“Hah…”

A faint chuckle escaped him as the cell slowly returned to life.

The pitch-black darkness in his eyes flickered with intensity.

RUMBLE!!!

The closer he grew, the more intense his laughter grew.

It sent chills across the skin of those who watched him devolve into a bout of madness while Amare simply heaved a half-amused, half-exasperated sigh.

It was pure mirth.

Ecstasy.

Delight.

Anthea had selflessly burned all his lifespan to evolve the next generation of evolutionaries in the Evolutionary Army.

He passed on sperm cells containing the legacy of his evolution.

All for the sake of giving his descendants the power to kill Rui.

And yet, the first person to benefit from his sacrifice would be Rui himself.

The very thought of it made him laugh even harder.

RUMBLE!!!!!

The world shook violently as Rui overcame death a second time, restoring life to a single evolutionary cell.

It quivered with what felt like fear.

As though it understood the sheer gravity of whatever had happened.

Rui’s attention returned to Anthea as he activated Megamind, slowly undoing much of the decomposition and immediate after-effects of death.

Given that he couldn’t afford to activate Gigabrain, he needed to do it slowly and patiently, in order to keep to his promise of ensuring that he kept his promise of leaving the corpse in a better condition than before.

By the time he was done, twelve hours had passed.

Over that time, Anthea’s body looked like it had been reversing in time, and in a way it was. He slowly restored the body shortly after death, relying on the data gained from the Angel of Laplace.

But he did not dare go further and actually try to resurrect him.

By the time he was done, he was drenched in sweat and exhausted.

If not for the Blood of Solaris and stamina-consuming adaptive evolution, he would never be able to last that long.

STEP

The stasis chamber closed behind him as he heaved an exhausted sigh.

In his palm floated an invisibly small evosapien skill cell.

“I need a place to store this cell. Also, prepare a place for me to rest. I need to sleep before my brain fries.”

The vice-president had already prepared another mini-stasis chamber that could keep the living cell suspended and frozen within it.

Their lack of understanding of evosapien biology made them unwilling to try and cultivate more samples of it without Rui’s supervision and his magical ability to resurrect dead cells. Even as they gaped at a living cell that came back from the dead, Rui took a good, long sleep for his efforts, recuperating his exhausted and strained mind.

Even as he drifted to sleep, he dreamed of the adaptive evolution he would get his hands on if this project succeeded.
