The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1581 - 1581: Formal Ceremony

In a blur, the knighthood ceremony came.

It was held in the biggest cathedral belonging to the Sun Ecclesia in Rontera, right when the day was at its peak. Nobles from all across the empire answered Duke Lorcan’s call, telling him that they were going to attend the ceremony.

His name is a heavyweight in the empire, so it was natural for them to come.

Rex and his convoy arrived the earliest, four hours before the ceremony started.

People of Rontera were already gathered in front of the cathedral, curious about the man—who would be marrying one of the most precious women—in the whole empire. All of them knew how high Princess Davina’s standards were, as she even declined the crown prince.

So naturally, everyone was curious as to the man who could make her agree.

“I heard he fought death to make the princess agree.”

“Eh… Really?”

“I heard how this unknown man suffered death’s grasp and prevailed. That… he’s a man unlike anything the empire has ever seen. Rex…”

“Woah~ He must be an incredible man.”

As the people banters among each other, silence suddenly enveloped the entire space when the carriage came to a halt right in front of the cathedral’s gate. Everyone unconsciously held their breaths, waiting for the people inside to come out.

Duke Lorcan was the first one to step out, draped in full armor with emerald star pauldrons.

He looked around, smiled, and waved at the people before entering the cathedral.

Following behind him was Princess Liliana in a royal dress, making a slight curtsy at the people.

Then, the people’s eyes finally sparkled as Princess Davina stepped out.

Everyone instantly fell in love with her all over again—draped over her figure was a flowing gown of deep emerald—and midnight black, matching the color of her hair exactly. The fabric shifted like liquid shadow and moonlit forests with every graceful movement, and its ethereal glow brushed the floor.

Gold embroidery traces the bodice and sleeves, curling like delicate vines.

It framed her exposed shoulders with regal poise.

A black mask with golden edges covered her face, focusing everyone on her slanted, sharp eyes.

Instead of making a curtsy to the people like Princess Liliana did, she turned to look inside the carriage.

Eventually, another figure stepped out.

A black armor boot tapped onto the ground, causing the onlookers to flinch at the sound.

Rex stepped out of the carriage, straightened his broad, imposing back—as if it were built to bear the weight of the entire world. He wore a fitted robe of black, emerald, and gold, not hiding his muscles at all, with one side draped down, exposing half his torso and revealing the dark shirt underneath.

Of course, this wasn’t Rex’s style at all.

Later, he’d be given the ceremonial robe for the knighthood ceremony.

So, he’d rather use the black shirt and be done with it, but Rosa forced him to use the robe.

Noticing that Princess Davina was waiting, he raised a brow.

He then glanced to the sides, noticing that there was a crowd of people gathered to see them.

Everyone who met his gaze instantly felt an unbelievable pressure, one that made them look down.

“Scary… He’s scarier than the rumor.”

“I didn’t know Princess Davina’s taste in men is like this…”

Realizing that Rex was scaring the people, Princess Davina’s eyes narrowed at him.

“Stop glaring at them and greet them with me.”

“I’m not glaring. This is my resting look.”

Princess Davina shook her head in disbelief at how stiff Rex was in this kind of setting.

Nevertheless, the duo greeted the crowd.

Rex bowed a little, and Princess Davina did a curtsy before the two stepped inside the cathedral.

As he entered the cathedral’s premises, Rex looked up.

Since he has seen the Great Barricade, which was the biggest structure Humanity has ever built, using all the materials across the entire land, not a lot of buildings could surprise him. But this cathedral was one of the exceptions.

It was extremely massive, and there was a statue of Kei Xun at the entrance.

Rex stopped to inspect it with his arms crossed.

“So that’s her real form,” He sneered inwardly, finding the sight of her to be repulsive.

Averting his gaze, he continued forward, into the cathedral.

As soon as he stepped inside, he was greeted with a massive and spacious hall that made him feel small.

It was vast beyond reason, a grand hall of soaring arches and endless stairways, where every step made echoes against polished marble. Sunlight streams through towering windows, breaking into radiant shafts that cut across the space like blades of deities.

Wherever the light touched, the gold-lined walls and ornaments shimmered with divine brilliance.

From the entrance to the altar at the other corner, it should be around five hundred meters.

Quite far away.

Duke Lorcan was waiting for him inside with a broad smile on his face.

He wore this friendly face as he approached, holding Rex’s shoulders with pride and acceptance.

“Are you ready to be knighted?”

“Can’t wait.”

“Good, good.”

Duke Lorcan laughed humorously, tapping Rex’s shoulders as he stepped to the side.

“Go to the backroom. We can’t have the guests see you now, can we? It’ll take away the shock factor.”

He then turned to Princess Davina.

“Daughter, guide him to the backroom and stay with him there until the ceremony starts.”

“Yes, Father.”

Rex and Princess Davina walked away, heading to the door on the right side of the altar.

Inside, Viora was already waiting.

“Greetings to the priestess,” Princess Davina cupped her hands and bowed.

Viora also bowed, “Princess…”

Then, she turned to Rex, and almost instantly, the friendliness on her face disappeared.

Rex sneered, taking no offense at her hostility.

As requested, Rosa called her here, and she was now appointed to help Rex walk through the entire ceremony, telling him the rundown of the ceremony, and also what he needed to do. And she couldn’t refuse either, since Rosa was now supporting Rex.

“You made me call for you.”

Rex walked past her, bumping her shoulder roughly.

Seeing this, Princess Davina couldn’t hide her surprise.

Viora is a Priestess of Purity directly under the Great Saintess, so how come Rex treated her like this?

Nonchalantly, Rex took a seat on the sofa.

Then, he realized Princess Davina and Viora were still standing awkwardly.

“What?” Rex raised his brows questioningly. “Viora, go on, give me the rundown of the ceremony.”

Hearing how commanding he was, Princess Davina’s mind turned blank.

She was already thinking of ways to apologize to Viora, as this kind of attitude couldn’t be tolerated.

Just the thought of Rex doing the exact same thing to the priestess—from the House of Castillon, already made her feel dizzy. But to her absolute surprise, instead of being angry, Viora sat down across Rex and began telling him the ceremony process.

It prompted a frown to form on Princess Davina’s face.

‘Who is he? I thought he was a nobody from the House of Aurelius… Why is the priestess letting him treat her like that?’

Hours passed.

Rex already knew what was going to happen during the ceremony.

It was simple enough, and there was no need for preparations.

All he needed to do was walk down the hall and kneel in front of the Empress.

People began to come and fill the grand hall.

Rex could sense their aura compiling into something palpable, dense enough to suffocate people—who aren’t at the minimum strength. Even the collective sound from their banters reached the backroom as the ceremony closed.

Curious, Rex peeked from the window on the door.

He noticed that all of them are wearing fancy clothes, and they seemed to be in their space.

It was quite surprising to see.

“All of them seemed to be of noble lineage,” He commented. “I thought most of them were going to send emissaries. Is it because Her Majesty would be here?”

“No,” Princess Davina shook her head. “All of them came to attend the ceremony directly because of Father. His name is heavy in the noble spaces. None of them dared to send emissaries. The Empress is a new one, and she barely has influence other than a few Marquesses backing her.”

At the news, Rex’s eyes glistened.

I remembered that it hadn’t been that long since she was crowned Empress. Maybe I can use that.

An idea reached Rex’s mind, and he was eager to test it out.

Just then, the Empress entered the cathedral.

Rex could see the entrance opening, and an elegant and royal figure entered.

Empress Morgana.

She was breathtaking, especially with the red dress she was wearing, and she’s also very young.

Based on what he heard, she’s no older than three hundred years old—which is very young for a spirit in the Spirit Realm. If transitioned to the Mortal Realm, she should be around the early twenty years old, extremely young.

Even Princess Davina was not too far away from her age.

Just then, Rex’s eyes narrowed when another woman wandering in the grand hall caught his eye.

For a moment, even time itself seemed to hesitate, as if her beauty had caught it off guard.

She was glancing left and right as if searching for someone.

But to him, it felt like the entire hall was searching for her.

Golden hair, gathered into a noble bun like her usual look, but tidier, shimmered beneath—the falling sunlight. Her sharp features were softened by her naturally red lips and bright hazel eyes, half-lowered with that dreamy, bored gaze that made her beauty feel distant, untouchable.

Even the small scar at the corner of her lips didn’t mar her; it completed her.

Like a flaw that made perfection real.

“April…”

It was April—she came to attend his knighthood ceremony.

A glimmer in Rex’s eyes, and a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips as April managed to get it.

She managed to get the Midnight Echo.

It should’ve happened last night, so she came rushing here after getting the Midnight Echo.

“Did you say something?” Princess Davina asked from behind.

But Rex didn’t answer.

He was too enthralled by the woman she was looking at.

Viora, who heard exactly what he mumbled, cleared her throat.

“Forgive him, princess. He’s like that when he’s thinking, detached from his surroundings.”

“No need for you to apologize.”

Princess Davina averted her gaze, but there was a hint of trouble on her expression.

Soon enough, the ceremony started.

Right on cue, Rex stepped out from the back room—with Princess Davina at his side, her hand resting gracefully on his arm as they walked beneath the weight of countless gazes. Applause broke out around them, the crowd marveling at their striking presence.

It was, after all, their first time seeing Rex in the flesh.

A man who was able to finally make Princess Davina settle.

Rex put on a smile when Princess Davina pinched his bicep, reprimanding him to smile.

Coursing through the red carpet, the two finally reached the altar.

Empress Morgana was already standing there—beside another Priestess of Purity, who was holding the knighting sword. Rex stared at the Empress as Princess Davina let go of his hand and went to stand beside Duke Lorcan on the side.

As he stood at the center of the hall alone, a sense of unease gripped him.

For a moment, Rex’s instincts flared with warning.

But the feeling was brief, quickly smothered by the rising applause.

Recovering from his daze, Rex shook his head a little and ascended the staircase.

Once he reached the top, he went down on one knee and lowered his head.

Rex’s breaths grew heavier as he sensed Empress Morgana taking the sword from the Priestess of Purity.

“I swear to defend the people of the empire, uphold the law, and oppose the Black Rift until my dying breath.”

As soon as Rex recounted the oath, Empress Morgana approached.

She tapped the sword on the right shoulder.

“By the authority of the empire and the will of its people,”

Rex watched as she lifted the sword, guiding it to his other shoulder, and placed it there.

“I bestow upon you the title, knight. Rise and bear this title with honor, Rex… Silverstar…”

Something in the way Empress Morgana uttered his name struck deep.

Rex’s eyes widened, and his head jerked up, breath caught somewhere in his throat.
