Rex loosened his body, skipping on his spot a couple of times as he prepared to attack again.

Despite being able to kill more than a hundred, a hundred more replaced them.

Glancing over his shoulder to view the city, he saw that the barrier, was already halfway to being restored, the energy leakage from the castle was what made these mutated animals vehemently attack the city.

It was a primal instinct for them to become stronger.

Just like the need to breathe for living beings—the will to be stronger was also that strong.

Due to that, these mutated animals didn't care if they were coming to a slaughterhouse.

Bending his knees downward, Rex began channeling his kingly energy.

He channeled his energy flow to cast the Primordial Step once again, but unlike before, the flow was more natural—and easier now. Rex could feel that his muscles were being infused with more and more power.

So strong that the ground was sinking in deeper and deeper under its might.

Surely, the strain was heavy, but Rex reckoned that he could do two or three more.

If he pushes himself to the limit that is.

Locking his gaze at the incoming mutated animals that slipped past Adhara, he dashed.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the walls, the south side.

Adopting a similar defense to Dindora, Nadia commanded the city guards—to make a strong barricade, on the mouth of the forest. As opposed to fighting alongside the mutated animals of the forest, controlled by the Forest's Overseer, Nadia opted to let the mutated animal tide clash against the inhabitants of the forest before they would pick the surviving ones.

It was easier to use this strategy when there was no exceptional individual among them.

Nadia had led a huge lump of people in battle before.

Lountain City was under her rule and she had handled the mutated animals around.

But a lot of them were skirmishes, nothing of this scale.

Standing behind the long line of city guards with their red prudian shield in hand, barricading the forest, Nadia could feel her heart racing inside her chest. A sweat drizzled down the side of her face as she fixed her hand on her dagger, feeling it wet.

Eventually, the ground beneath her feet began to tremble slightly.

"Ready your shields!" She shouted.

Despite trying to remain strong, her voice was breaking—her nervousness was clear.

She has fought a sixth-rank mutated animal before, even taking down Vashag, with the help of the others. But the incoming horde wasn't a normal one, the average power they possess is around the seventh-rank realm.

No wonder that she had cold feet in this battle.

Roar!

Loud roars and the sound of battles could be heard approaching.

It was near, the tide of mutated animals was near.

Soon enough, the first mutated animal appeared, a mutated buffalo with horns—spanning a car's length, and was also robust. It bore severe wounds across its body from the fight with the forest's inhabitants, causing it to bleed hard.

Even though it still bellowed angrily, it was definitely on the verge of death.

But even then, it still has enough strength to attack one more time.

Moreover, its power was at the seventh-rank realm.

Galloping ahead, its hooves added with its heavy weight creating a dull thudding sound with each step, the mutated buffalo, charged at the line of city guards. In preparation, the guards planted their shields into the ground, bracing for impact.

Mental Elementalists attached them with strings, enhancing their physical prowess.

On the other hand, the Wind Elementalists created a pushing gust from behind.

An additional layer to hold the line by making it more compact.

Swoosh!

Pulling nothing back, the mutated buffalo galloped faster and crashed against the line.

Both of its horns struck four city guards at the same time, all four absorbed the force.

"Kaarggghkk!!"

One of them shouted in agony, the sharp tip of the horn caved the shield in.

His arm bones were broken because of that.

Nadia was surprised, she knew who the guard was and how strong he was.

But even then, the guard was wounded from a single blow.

Recovering from her daze, she turned to the others, "Go and help him! Now!"

Upon hearing this, the other city guards quickly rushed in to help, pulling the wounded guard and replacing him to block the mutated buffalo. Like a berserk monster—the mutated buffalo kept slamming against the barricade of city guards, trying to push through.

It was then that more of the mutated animals appeared in the distance.

"Oh, no... there are holes in the barricade," Nadia whispered.

Because of abandoning their position to help the wounded guard, weak spots were formed.

Crash!

Several mutated animals clashed against the line of city guards.

Many of them were struggling to stand their ground, some were even thrown away.

Nadia's plan was simple, she wanted to make the barricade to hold the line while the forest's inhabitants, and the city guards she stationed on the walls would attack—and take down the mutated animals.

As long as the barricade stood, the mutated animals would be taken down one by one.

But in practice, it was completely different.

"Graargghk!!"

"Cover the weak spots! Tighten the line, don't leave any gaps!"

"What are you saying?! If we tighten the line, these beasts could go around the edges!"

"Someone help!!"

It was extremely hard to keep ahold of the line, even with the help of their high-quality armor, the mutated animals—were simply too strong. Seeing the city guards were struggling—Nadia snapped out of her daze.

She was in the fifth-rank realm, she couldn't help physically.

Even then she should be able to organize them properly.

"Close down the weak spots!" She commanded.

Upon hearing this, the city guards did as they were told but some were complaining.

"What about the edges?! They would reach our back and attack us if it was left unattended!"

"Yeah, the line wouldn't hold! We can't leave it unattended!"

Nadia nodded her head, she knew that the city guards were right to worry about this.

As more mutated animals clashed against their shields, the incoming ones would go for the two ends of the barricade and go around them. If that happened, the line would collapse in an instant.

However, Nadia thought of a way to avoid that ending.

"You there, bring five people with you and go to the edges!" She pointed at the city guard— who was tending to the wounded city guard. "Plant your shield and activate its ability, make sure these beasts go to the wall instead!"

Despite being told by an actual kid, the city guard obeyed and brought five along with him.

Alongside them was another group of six heading to the other edge of the barricade.

Nadia might be a kid but she was appointed as this side's leader by the Sivlerstar Pack.

Questioning her would be questioning the royal pack so all of them obeyed.

Reaching the edges, the appointed city guards made distance from each other, and planted their shields into the ground, and activated them Searing heat seeped out of their shields, it was the Red Prudian's ability.

A couple of mutated animals reached the edge because of the crowd and battles.

But as they were about to go around and attack from the back, they were blocked.

A searing heat that swayed the air stopped them in their tracks.

It stung their skin from getting close.

Going to the side, they searched for a hole in this heated air but found none until the wall.

Having no other choice, they turned to the wall and began climbing it.

However, the city guards on the walls blasted them, causing them to stumble and fall.

"It's working! Horray!" Nadia cheered, happy with the result.

Since these mutated animals were attracted here by the castle, their main goal was reaching the castle, not killing these pesky city guards. So if they found no way around, they would be changing their focus back to the castle.

In truth, the searing air could be passed but the displeasure it caused dissuades them.

All of the mutated animals didn't even try passing it.

Celebrating before the battle was over was a taboo on the battlefield, and Nadia learned that when out of nowhere—a lizard-like mutated animal went towards the wall. But along the way, its robust and armored tail bumped into one of the city guards on the right edge.

It caused her to stumble and fall, evaporating the searing air around her.

Sensing this, the mutated lizard turned and squinted its reptilian eyes.

Licking the air with its tongue, it turned around and pushed through the searing air.

Just like that, the right edge was broken through.

Recovering from the attack, the city guard looks up and sees the towering mutated lizard.

It shadowed her in its presence, killing intent palpable in its eyes.

As the mutated lizard was about to chomp down on the city guard, a streak of lightning came out of nowhere and pushed the city guard out of the way. Nadia had intervened—she did not stay idle and save the city guard.

Making a swift turn, Nadia pointed her hands toward the mutated lizard and chanted a spell.

"Lightning Burst!"

Tendrils of lightning exploded from her hands, zapping the mutated lizard.

But as soon as she did that, her face paled.

Even though the mutated lizard was struck directly, the lightning does not affect it at all.

Nadia gasped inside.

'I can't hurt it... my lightning is too weak...'

'I'm only a fifth-rank realm, I'm helpless in this battle...'

Not stopping at that, it worsen when the mutated lizard absorbed and channeled Nadia's spell and concentrate it onto its tail. Its tail rose and aimed at Nadia, a charge of lightning concentrated and was about to fire a lightning ray at Nadia.

Blitz!

Just as the lightning ray was about to shoot, Nadia's eyes widened completely.

She would die if she got blasted by this.

However, before the mutated lizard could fire, something came crashing from above.

Nadia was surprised—when Ugrok came from above with his new Red Prudian club that was able to match its size. He made a savage downswing with it, and crushed the mutated lizard, into meat paste.

Despite its massive body, Ugrok was even bigger and more ferocious.

ROAR!!

Unleashing the presence of a Cyclops, the mutated animals turned towards Ugrok instantly.

His aura pulled them all to attack him, challenging all of them into a fight.

"Command the line still, Ugrok will take care strong ones, okay?"

Ugrok turned and shot Nadia an assuring smile.

Even though his body was massive—and had the presence of a dominating Supernatural, he was surprisingly friendly. One might be spooked by his appearance but inside—Ugrok was a dotting creature.

Nadia nodded her head, "Okay, please help them"

As soon as she said that, Ugrok leaped high and slammed into the center of the enemies.

His massive body rampages through the horde of mutated animals.

He was even big enough to grab the mutated animals with his hands, and slammed them to the ground, killing them instantly. It has gotten way better with Ugrok around but this made Nadia clench both of her fists.

"I need a spirit so I can be strong and not let what happened happen again..." She mused.

Back to the other side.

<Notice: the Primordial Step's mastery has been increased to Adept!>

Seeing the notification, Rex smiled.

Blood drizzled down from his nose from overexertion but that didn't stop him from smiling.

He was still in the air, a mist of blood could be seen behind him, as the mutated animals were all killed with one swipe. He scanned around and saw that the coast was basically clear—the mutated animal tide was cleared in his side.

All the ninth-rank realms were killed and the rest ran away.

Just then, however, he glanced to his behind and saw a lightning strike spreading like roots.

Opposed to coming from the sky, it was coming from the earth instead.

It was only then did he saw something that made his eyes widen in surprise.
