Chapter 546: Chapter 541: Planning for her_1

Outside the door, Catrina Rodgurez and Nicholas Thompson stood face to face.

Minutes passed, yet neither of them said a word.

One was too hesitant, the other lacked courage.

Looking at the woman he loved, Nicholas Thompson felt a bitter taste in his heart.

He had once gathered the courage to confess his feelings to Catrina, only to learn that she was leaving the country.

“Wait for me to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, then we will be together.”

In Nicholas’s view, that was tantamount to rejection.

To Catrina, however, it appeared as if Nicholas underestimated her.

What’s wrong with the Nobel Prize in Physics, wasn’t she excellent?

It was not until later, when she truly entered the field of physics, that she realized her excellence was merely top-tier within a small circle, not remarkable on a larger scale.

Yet, having expressed herself then, she found it difficult to explain now.

“I… have been following the Nobel Prize winners all these years.” Nicholas paused, “You weren’t among them.”

“…”

Chuckles escaping her, Catrina retorted, “If I’m not there, you can’t take the initiative to contact me? Do you expect me to come chasing after you, begging for attention?”

“Forget it, I admit I was wrong. That’s why… I’m here begging for attention.”

Having said that, Catrina puckered her lips, a blush creeping onto her usually serious face.

She was meticulous and unswayable in the laboratory. Nothing could affect her mood unless it involved Nicholas, she would start to lose her breath.

She admitted she was love-struck, fully aware of her affection towards Nicholas.

“I’m back now, your sister is found, your younger brother is even in love. You can’t stay single, can you?” Catrina raised her chin defiantly. “While I was abroad, you turned down many women introduced to you. Nicholas Thompson, you still like me, don’t you?”

“We’re adults, there’s no need to beat around the bush. If you still like me, let’s start dating. If you don’t, I will understand… ” Upon reaching this point, Catrina started coughing nervously, “You know how I feel about you now, are you willing to be in a relationship with me?”

In the past, she had overestimated herself.

She assumed that Nicholas would persistently chase after her, but he gave up on her as soon as she left the country.

“Catrina…” Nicholas finally spoke, his face serious. “I would never reject you.”

The weight in her heart finally lifted.

Catrina’s face broke into a smile. “That’s wonderful. Talking to intelligent people saves a lot of time and effort.”

“Now that we’ve settled that, let’s go in. I guess it’s Gabriel and her fiancé’s turn soon.”

Nicholas’s smile froze in place. “You’re paying a lot of attention to Ethan Hopkins?”

If it weren’t for Ethan choking Fourth Sister, he wouldn’t have such a strong dislike for him. But given that incident, no matter how much Gabriel loves him, or the fact that Ethan is the biological father of his nephew, he can’t act as if nothing happened.

“Not really, only started today.” Catrina hesitated, unsure whether to reveal Gillian’s request for her help, “Don’t you dote on Gabriel? She’s now pregnant and planning to marry into the Hopkins family. As her family, we should look out for her.”

“I heard that her future mother-in-law doesn’t like her much. If this project goes to the Hopkins family, she’d have a better standing in her married home.”

“I remember when you had carbon monoxide poisoning. It was her who sent you to the hospital with all her strength. Otherwise, you might not be alive today.”

Catrina’s words triggered a rush of memories in Nicholas.

It was Gabriel who saved him from the brink of death that time.

And because of his weight, she broke her leg.

Perhaps this was why, knowing of Gabriel’s broken leg, he felt even worse for her.

Who knows, it might very well be that fracture that led to Gabriel’s weak legs.

Nicholas didn’t just feel sorry for Gabriel, he felt a profound gratitude towards her for having saved him.

Seeing Nicholas silent, Catrina’s eyes filled with concern. “They don’t understand, but I do. Although Gabriel isn’t your biological sister, since you treat her as one, I will too.”

Hearing this, a touch of melancholy slowly spread in Nicholas’s brown eyes.

“No need.”

His lips parted slightly, and his hoarse voice spread out, like an endless disappointment plunging into the abyss.

Catrina had never seen him look so distressed.

“Is Ivy Thompson making it difficult for you?” Catrina imagined the calm and glamorous appearance of Ivy, “I heard that you and Ivy don’t get along, Nicholas. I didn’t expect the sister you longed for all these years to be against you. You’re her brother. No matter what, she should not treat you this way.”

She had seen how Ivy treated Nicholas in the room earlier.

She greeted Damian, smiled at Joshua, but completely ignored Nicholas, as if he were invisible, not even gracing him with a glance.

She accepted everyone else from the Thompson family but not Nicholas. What kind of grudge was this?

Catrina watched with a heavy heart.

In her view, even if Nicholas showed favoritism towards Gillian, Ivy shouldn’t harbor such jealousy.

She knew Nicholas; his bias towards Gillian had reasons.

Gillian was Nicholas’s lifesaver, and Nicholas, in turn, was Gillian’s benefactor.

Unlike some sisters-in-law who are jealous of their sisters-in-law, she and Gillian always got along well.

And Gillian had always called her “Sister-in-law.”

For the sake of this term “sister-in-law,” she was willing to care for Gillian as a sister, just like Nicholas.

Seeing Catrina’s outrage, Nicholas knew she was biased against Ivy.

“It’s a long story.”

Nicholas Thompson conceded that the root of all these issues was not with Fourth Sister. The main responsibility lay with him.

He had made too many mistakes.

If he were Ivy, he wouldn’t accept such a brother either.

But the path had been taken. It was impossible to turn back now.

“Let’s go in first.” Nick hesitated as he spoke, “After your work is done, I will explain everything to you.”

Catrina was indignant on his behalf, defending him in his injustice, but that didn’t mean her understanding was accurate.

He did not want Catrina to hold any prejudice against Ivy.

Seeing him unwilling to divulge, Catrina obediently nodded, “Then tell me after I finish work. I also want to know what kind of relationship you have with Ivy.”

Considering that she has been kind to everyone else in the Thompson family, there’s no reason why she would solely dislike Nicholas so much.

Suddenly, she remembered her father’s evaluation of Ivy.

Could there truly have been a misunderstanding?

In the conference room, Gillian has finished reading all the planning words.

The audience remained silent.

“Is Miss Thompson finished?” Dion Rodgurez gently asked to make sure she wasn’t pausing because of nerves, “You still have time, feel free to continue if there’s anything else.”

Gillian’s hand holding the paper twitched lightly: “I… have finished.”

These few lines were all.

A strange expression emerged on everyone else’s faces in the room.

That’s it?

She stood on stage to challenge Michael Gallagher’s bid with just this?
