Chapter 999: Wealth
Shortly after Xu Feng clarified the situation to them, Allison was dumbfounded.
She quickly darted her eyes toward Rebecca, only to notice she was putting on a disgusted expression.
Rebecca wasn’t disgusted by Xu Feng, but rather by the person who told her to establish contact and discuss reconciliation. She thought it was just a simple matter, granted that her friend was close with a high member of the Vanguard Guild.
Yet who could have imagined this so-called simple matter turned out to be a hoax?
Now, Rebecca felt absolutely disgusted. It was the equivalent of swallowing a mouthful of maggot while thinking the food was gourmet.
"I-I’m sorry, Xu Feng." Rebecca pursed her lips and apologized. "I didn’t expect there to be a hidden implication behind the offering."
Normally, Rebecca wasn’t the type to jump the gun and blindly believe the other party’s words.
However, she didn’t doubt Xu Feng would be spouting nonsense. After all, he was ultimately refusing free money.
Who doesn’t love money?
Okay, maybe not everyone loves it to the point of going insane, but from her friend’s words, Xu Feng was the money-grubber type.
For a money-grubber to directly refuse such a large sum of money spoke volumes.
"I didn’t think they would actually pull such a stunt." Allison frowned and also apologized to Xu Feng.
"Despite not having taught you in a class, I’m still considered your former professor on paper. It’s my fault for letting a former student nearly be swindled due to my intervention." She then stood up and was about to bow her head.
Too bad for her, Xu Feng was quicker and halted her action. If he were to really receive this bow, then Xu Feng might be punched by his past self.
After all, his past self managed to learn and survive thanks to her. Such a hidden implication would have been easily spotted by her if it was in the past timeline. But because this was a new timeline and Allison had yet to dabble much into the gaming industry, it was only obvious she would be a bit slow.
"Rest assured, I’m not mad at the two of you." Xu Feng calmly said.
"If I were, then I would have either left or demanded you two to leave." He continued jokingly.
This VIP booth was under his electronic VIP ticket, so in a sense, this was his booth and they were guests.
"I’ll take my leave," Rebecca stood up and wished to excuse herself. She had embarrassed herself enough. Her face was burning red hot from this incident.
When had she ever felt so embarrassed in her life before?
Alarmed, Allison wanted to convince her to stay but halted herself. She knew her friend well and understood that she probably felt guilty about the situation even though she was also a victim.
Just when Rebecca was about to exit, Xu Feng’s voice resounded.
"Hmm, leaving now would be a guilty conscience of trying to deceive me. But staying would mean the heart is clear and there’s no need for any guilt or shame. What could the answer be?"
Thud!
Instantly, Rebecca’s footsteps paused as she was a meter away from opening the door.
In the meantime, Allison gave Xu Feng a thumbs up.
What a great speech!
Without needing to convince the latter, Xu Feng easily managed to give her a leeway and a reason to remain in the booth.
Moreover, it effectively saved her dignity and allowed her to prove her innocence.
Sure enough, Rebecca swiftly turned around and returned to her seat.
"I am indeed not guilty, so I decided to stay in this booth. I hope Xu Feng won’t mind my presence." Despite saying so, she had already made herself comfortable with the couch.
"Of course, I won’t mind." Xu Feng lightly said and retrieved a tablet that showed a list of food available to order.
"But the person treating..."
He didn’t complete his words, but Rebecca understood right away.
"It’s my tab. Order however you want and don’t be courteous with me." She declared proudly. What she lacked the most in this world was money!
Others might be struggling with their white-collar job or some low-end job that barely pays, but not her. Even just by doing nothing and lazing in bed, her wealth would continue to rise.
After all, she held shares in Lethal Finance and numerous other companies.
As a major shareholder in many top companies, the dividends she received quarterly were enough to buy her multiple condos or houses.
Besides the dividends, she also invested in stocks and other cryptocurrency.
"Why not just order everything on the menu?" Xu Feng teased.
"Go ahead," Rebecca shrugged and said nonchalantly. "If we can’t finish it, then you can just toss it away or get it for takeout."
Seeing how wasteful she was being, both Xu Feng and Allison twitched their mouths.
"Sometimes, even I’m quite envious of Rebecca’s wealth." Allison exhaled in defeat and expressed her jealousy.
"Oh, stop it, you!" Rebecca rolled her eyes.
"You also have a lot of wealth but still choose to become a professor. What’s so good about being a professor who worries about students? Not every student wishes to be successful, and some of them even harbor perverted thoughts toward you." She continued and complained.
Feeling suffocated by these two flaunting their wealth, Xu Feng nearly wanted to rage quit and leave the booth.
Truly, one should never compare themselves to those born with a diamond spoon.
The amount of blood stored in one’s body wouldn’t even be enough to puke when doing the comparison!
’I also want to buy items without looking at the price tag.’ He cried inwardly and ultimately ordered everything on the menu. Either way, he could have them as takeout and reheat them in the oven later on. Foods in this kind of setting tend to be very small portions anyway.
What was it called again?
Right, fine dining!
The typical food scam where you paid a bunch of money for a small portion size which you can’t even fill up your stomach.
