Chapter 997: Cut Ties

Although Zhao Kai’s tone was somewhat cold and detached, Allison still heaved a sigh of relief.

She gave her thanks and appreciated him for being willing to relay the news to Xu Feng.

To be honest, Allison also hesitated a lot on how to mend the relationship between the Vanguard Guild and Lethal Corp.

One side was her student or former student and another side was her friend.

Both sides were someone whom Allison didn’t wish to be harmed.

She was truly in a difficult predicament but if she remained idle and allowed the relationship to fester, then Allison would truly regret her inaction.

Sometime later, Xu Feng finally managed to excuse himself from Alfred’s social circle and returned to Zhao Kai and Allison’s side.

"I knew a VIP Ticket should be something fishy." Xu Feng exhaled softly upon his return. "Next time, I’m just going to get an ordinary ticket to avoid all these parties."

He was here to watch the competition, and not to build some network. There would be a place and time for such events, but it was definitely not today.

Xu Feng was about to speak further when he suddenly noticed the atmosphere didn’t seem right.

Allison’s eyes were subtly avoiding him and Zhao Kai appeared to be timid or cowardly. It was a far cry from his previous enthusiasm and over-dramatic behavior.

His eyes narrowed as he adjusted his glasses.

"Alright, what’s the matter? Spill the beans and stop the suspense." Xu Feng stared at Zhao Kai and demanded.

Since he was closer to Zhao Kai and not really with Allison in this current timeline, he was more comfortable with demanding an answer from Zhao Kai.

Zhao Kai scratched his head slightly and shifted his eyes to Allison. In response, Allison feigned ignorance and turned her head away.

’Damn it. Even a professor can be this shameless.’ Zhao Kai cursed silently and realized Allison had dug a hole for him to fall in.

He even began to suspect that she was acting previously to reel him into suggesting to be the middleman.

"Ugh, so here’s the situation, Feng." Zhao Kai bit the bullet and explained everything from start to finish.

By the time Xu Feng understood the situation, he calmly turned to Allison.

"If your friend is really affiliated with the Lethal Corp, then I’m only going to say this once. Cut ties with the Reaver Guild and we will go back to neutral." He stated his condition.

From start to finish, Xu Feng never held any hostility toward the Lethal Corp.

Sure, they planned an ambush against them, but such behavior was very common and normal. The only reason he was displeased was their cause of ambushing. Their cause didn’t stem from trying to rob others but committed for the sake of the Reaver Guild.

"Very well," Allison nodded and readily agreed to it.

"My friend, Rebecca already mentioned that she had reprimanded those who went ahead with the ambush. As for the Reaver Guild, they have long-cut ties with them. From their internal investigation, they figured the acting guild leader of Reaver Guild, Scythe, was getting cozy with a mysterious organization." She added.

’Scythe huh. That’s Gao Zhong’s in-game name, and the mysterious organization should most likely be the Illuminati.’ Xu Feng was a bit alarmed that the timeline of the event seemed to have accelerated.

In the past timeline, the young heir also approached them after his position was threatened by his siblings. It occurred due to his shaky foundation and lackluster results.

However, he had Xu Feng alleviate most of his plight, which prevented his foundation from crumbling.

Unfortunately for Gao Zhong now in this current timeline, Xu Feng wasn’t the same foolish person who would help him. Thus, his lackluster results and repeated failure must have prompted his father to ponder whether he was a suitable successor.

"Allison, if that’s the case, then there’s no need to worry further. Our Vanguard Guild is never the type to actively provoke others. It’s always others trying to provoke us because they are jealous of our rapid advancement." Xu Feng lightly chuckled and reassured her.

One enemy less was better than having more enemies. Although he wasn’t afraid of them, he would definitely not mind having fewer enemies to deal with.

"Great, she’s just right around the corner." Allison clasped her hands and asked, "Do you want to meet with her right now? Kai is about to head to the competitors’ venue so we can chat at the VIP booth."

Zhao Kai: ...

Xu Feng: ...

Both Xu Feng and Zhao Kai glanced at each other with a silent expression. They might not have said anything, but their micro-expressions toward each other were enough for communication.

In their mind, they concluded that Allison had the knack to become a great salesperson. She waited for the perfect opportunity to speak about this matter and even set up the meeting beforehand.

The confidence and shrewdness were truly appalling.

As much as Zhao Kai wanted to stay, he was subsequently called over by Alfred to start heading to another section.

"Feng, I’ll have to leave now." Zhao Kai turned to Xu Feng and said.

Nodding, Xu Feng waved his hand. "Go, and don’t embarrass us. Show the other fighters what you got."

"Heh, you can rest assured."

After saying so, Zhao Kai began walking away, leaving Allison and Xu Feng alone.

"My Uncle is going to be busy interacting with his peers. We can just head to the VIP booth from there." Allison explained and pointed at another specialized elevator.

To ensure maximum safety, the VIP booth couldn’t be accessed through normal means. It had its own entrance point and exit route, separated from the regular ticket holders.

Sometime later, under the guidance of Allison, Xu Feng stumbled across a female waiting outside by a VIP booth.

’So she’s Rebecca.’ Memories quickly surfaced in Xu Feng’s mind as he recalled her appearance.

He simply didn’t expect this woman to be connected with the Lethal Corp.
