Chapter 534: Sand Dollar

“Do you understand now why even the Major Factions are interested in the Pixie Dust? They think that it’s what will lead them to get the precious Sand Dollars from the Mermen!

If they purchase the Pixie Dust, then the Mermen will have no choice but to speak with them, therefore giving them the opportunity for a Sand Dollar exchange.”

Michael still couldn’t get over the purchasing of Soo and GodForge pieces.

“So, the Mermen use Sand Dollars as their type of currency. And with Sand Dollars, one can buy GodForge pieces and Soo? I thought that the Mermen only had Soo, but they also have GodForge pieces?”

“Not exactly. You’re right that they are the only source of Soo in the entire world. However, GodForge pieces are found everywhere as long as you look hard enough.

Organizations and companies can buy GodForge pieces as long as they have enough gold coins. But they can’t buy all the Soo they want even if they had all the money in the world. That’s because Soo can only be bought with Sand Dollars.

So, what other people do is that they sell off their extra GodForge pieces for Sand Dollars, which they will use to buy Soo.”

It still didn’t make sense to Michael why people had to go through all that trouble.

“Why can’t people just buy Sand Dollars from the Mermen with our money? Or better yet, just buy Soo for gold coins?”

The Duchess showed Michael the cup of tea they were drinking.

“If I were to sell this tea to a thirsty person, they’ll give me gold coins because they want to drink it. But if I were to sell this to a rock, they won’t buy it because it’s not useful to them.

Mermen live a completely different life from humans and demi-humans. For them, gold coins are just as useless as the rocks on our ground. How would you feel if people paid you rocks in exchange for your automobiles?”

This explanation from the Duchess gave him some more clarity he needed. Currency was only useful if the majority of the people agreed that it was useful.

“Anyway, this is a chance for you to get a Sand Dollar for yourself. You should cooperate with the Rising Six and try to outbid the Major Factions with your money. You’ll need cooperation if you want to outbid the big leagues,” the Duchess advised.

Of course, if it was any other circumstance, Michael wouldn’t have hesitated.

But of course, knowing who he had back in his VIP suite, doing so would be a fruitless endeavor.

“There’s no need,” he told the Duchess.

Hearing this, the Duchess couldn’t help but laugh to herself. “Oh, I see what you’re getting at. You want to bid for the Pixie Dust yourself. HAHAHA! I knew you were rich, but I just didn’t know how much!”

He waved his hand. “No, nothing like that. I just mean that I don’t need the Pixie Dust. I already have them in droves.”

“What?!” the Duchess asked, surprised.

And before she could ask for more elaboration, Michael whistled with his hands and called for Vivi to come through the portal and into the Pocket Dimension.

A few seconds later, a bubbly Fairy the size of a finger buzzed through the portal and landed directly in his shoulder.

Vivi sat on his clavicle, swinging her feet and humming a catchy tune. “Watcha want, Mr. Reborn?”

The Duchess’ eyes went wide seeing this legendary demi-human in the flesh.

That small stature, those fluttery wings, that golden ethereal glow that surrounded her, and most of all, the golden dust that was coming off of her with every movement that she made.

There was no mistaking it. That was a Fairy!

“I can’t…that’s…a FAIRY!” the Duchess exclaimed, unable to hide her shock. Even in all her years of living, she had never seen or felt the presence of a Fairy even once. She was also sure that no one had ever seen them at all.

They were famous for always playing tricks and hiding away from prying eyes.

Yet somehow, Michael had one on his shoulders. Not only that, but they seemed extremely familiar with each other as well, as if they were friends!

“Duchess, meet Vivi. Vivi, meet the Duchess.”

Vivi fluttered her wings and buzzed around the Duchess’ face, observing her looks and expression. “Hmmm…yeah, she’s shocked alright. Mind if I take a bite?”

Michael immediately grabbed her and yanked her away from the Duchess. “That’s the Duchess, you know! The whole of Metropolis will hunt you down if something were to happen to her,” he warned her.

“Alright, Mr. Reborn…I’ll just wait till we get back to the roller coaster.”

At this point, the Duchess had been completely speechless and flustered for the first time in 40 years!

She didn’t know what to say.

“Oh, Vivi. The Duchess tells me that the Mermen wants to see you and the Fairies. Any idea why?”

Vivi tilted her head, trying to pass through her thoughts of playing Uno and into her memory center. She seemed on the verge of remembering something, but nothing would come up.

“I don’t know, hehe. Sorry!” Vivi said.

Michael sighed. “Ugh…fine. I’ll just ask your mother about it next time I see her. You know, sometimes, I think that she should be the Pixie Queen instead of you.”

It was at this moment that the Duchess almost had a heart attack.

“Pixe…Queen…”

Immediately, one of the Duchess’ attendants, presumably her doctor, came rushing inside the Pocket Dimension and checked in on her well-being.

He felt her pulse and listened to her heartbeat. “She’s healthy,” the man realized, confused. “She’s just shocked!”

“My bad,” Michael scratched his head awkwardly.

After a minute of total silence, the Duchess finally regained her senses and took a big breath.

“Michael…you know the Pixie Queen? You…you’re friends with her?!”

He nodded. “Yeah, we kinda have an agreement going on. I feed her and the Fairies emotions, and in exchange, they work for me.”

The Duchess could only look at Michael as if he was an alien. He was able to make the very elusive Fairies into being his workers! No one had ever even seen a Fairy before, much less have them actively be a part of an organization or company.

Sigh…we’ll have to talk more about this Fairy thing later,” the Duchess said, massaging her head.

Headaches seemed to be a common theme around the people interacting with Michael.

“Alright, sure. I also want to know more about the Mermen and the Sand Dollar thing.”

“I’ll try and introduce you to them. They usually don’t accept guests because they’re so hard to please, but once I tell them about your relationship with the Fairies, then I think that they’ll make an exception,” the Duchess promised.

She then walked back to her VIP suite being guided by her attendant.

He looked back at her and felt a little bit sorry for making her experience that shock. He would have told her about his agreement with the Dwarves too, but he didn’t want her to be in an even worse state than she already was.

Eh, maybe next time.

He returned to his VIP suite and watched the auction unfold.
