Chapter 2464 Meeting

The next day.

In the base city of the Hephaestus and Athena teams.

The appointed leader of all the mercenary groups and their representative who usually took orders from the Hephaestus and the Athena teams was standing in the meeting room, while he gave the report.

"There were twenty four explosions yesterday. At least the ones we know of. That was a clean wipe of twenty four groups of mercenaries. The twenty fifth one however was captured. That was forty people. A whole lot bigger than the previous one.

I will be honest.

All the mercenary teams are asking to withdraw."

The teams weren't exactly shocked. They just sighed in despair. Particularly the leaders of the two teams.

Quinzz, the young man in charge of the Athena team, held his silver blonde hair, while supporting his head his palm with the elbow on the table. He was just one push away from pulling it out. Sitting right next to him was Mae, the Hephaestus team leader, the petite woman who didn't really suit the fiery aura she was emanating.

"What do you mean? They want to quit? Is that what all the mercenaries from the battlefields amount to?"

The merc leader looked at her and said.

"Please lady Mae. You are better than this.

The enemies you picked are too strong and too ruthless. All those mercenaries out there might be coming to you for money, but they value their lives. Despite all their differences, when they fight they are brothers in arms.

And your enemies, are using those brothers to attack them.

You do no know what is happening out there. The curses are unbreakable with our current knowledge or level.

And they are slowly losing vitality.

There are already four people dead and their deaths were agonizing. The mercenaries are not ready to face it.

This realm is already tough enough as it is, but your enemies are beyond manageable."

Quizz sighed again and asked.

"So, are you also quitting?"

The merc leader was silent for a moment and pursed his lips.

"Collect your payment and leave. Don't worry about us blocking your path. There would be no pressure to you from the Athena academy's side."

"Thank you, sir."

The merc leader left. Just like that, the three percent area that their teams originally occupied dropped to one percent.

Only the core members of the two teams were left inside the room and they all just stared at each other in sullen silence until Quinzz spoke.

"We need to come up with a plan."

"You discovered that all by yourself?" Mae replied through gritted teeth.

"Yes, I did.

First of all, we need numbers to tackle the Gambler team. And they can't just be fillers. We need some quality this time around. I am going to call my family and pull strings among the affiliations we have.

I can bring around a couple of hundred people with my authority.

Please do the same and find as many people as you can."

Quinzz addressed everyone and they nodded.

"Now, the Gambler academy.

Their approach changed drastically. Previously they were just using traps and formations. They are now going lethal. The mercenaries are scared away."

"Welcome to a session of state the obvious. Any other obvious things you know, Quinzz."

Mae grumbled again.

"One more sarcastic remark out of your mouth, I will crush your wind pipe, Mae. We are working together and I tolerate you. But not in the current situation."

Mae shut right up.

"There are only two options now.

First, we need to cut a deal with the Gambler academy team so that we can all have a share of the resources.

Second, we need to throw all bets off and then fight it out with the Gambler academy. Go all out and destroy them."

"I choose the second. There is no way I am going to find a middle ground with them." Mae adamantly replied.

"Mae, you should consider this. We cannot draw out too many resources from our family too much and the gambler team still has forty people. They are using the spatial gates and captives to that extent. They are even bypassing the spatial restrictions.

How do you think we can move past this?

Those bastards are way too smart for us to track them. And if my guess is not wrong, they are feeding us information to keep us on the hook.

We need to reach a compromise. I think that will be a lot more economical for us and saves a lot of lives."

"No. Not happening.

There is no way in hell, we are making a deal with the gambler academy.

If you really want to, we can break our current agreement."

"Mae, if this has anything to do with the conflict your elders have with Sam, then I am going to be disappointed and fucking pissed off."

Mae didn't reply.

"I don't know if you noticed Mae, the mercenary forces that were scared away… I paid for them. Not my academy, not the team, not you. I paid for them. I paid for them from my own goddamn pocket.

The alliance between our teams was being funded by me.

My forces are the ones that were handling the locals. Both cultivators and the beasts.

So, if you don't want to follow my words, then the alliance as you know shall be dissolved. You can go back to your academy and tell them that it was gone, because you were trying to keep up with the grudge some old bastard of an elder created with a student who is ten times younger.

Now, are you in or not?"

Mae bit her lip and nodded.

"Guys, send a word out. I need a meeting with Haziel this afternoon. We are going to figure this out today."

.

.

.

An hour later.

In the gambler academy base, Sam held the video recording of Quinzz asking for a meeting.

"So, what do you guys think? Do you want to attend the meeting or not?" he asked Haziel who was scratching her head in confusion.
