Chapter 6112 Impersonation

This was a vast, ancient city. Though it didn’t rival Orchid Mound City or Bai Sovereign City in scale, its defenses were still formidable.

The city walls had countless formation runes shining on them. Clearly, the experts inside had long since received word of the oncoming devil creature tide and had made their preparations to fight.

Now, with the devil creatures coming toward them like a living avalanche, the ground trembled… and so did the hearts of those inside.

“Quick, get in!” shouted a middle-aged man atop the city walls.

“We can’t wait for them! The devil creatures are too close! If we raise the barrier after those guys enter, the formation won’t be at full strength in time!”

“There’s still time! Wait! The Four Cardinal Alliance does not abandon its comrades!” the man retorted firmly.

This middle-aged man was a second Heavenstage Sovereign Lord. With thick eyebrows and piercing eyes, he stood at the front of the wall—clearly the city lord.

But the one arguing with him was also a second Heavenstage Sovereign Lord, though his hollow cheeks and long face gave him the look of a donkey.

“When the grand formation activates, it needs to link thirty-six thousand formation nodes!” the elder barked. “That takes several breaths at minimum! If the devil creatures strike during that time, it will drain immense amounts of spirit stones and delay full activation. If even one Sovereign Lord devil creature appears, it could break the formation before it’s fully charged! Then we’ll all be doomed! You should be clear on what’s more important!”

The experts atop the city walls exchanged uncertain glances. Both sides had valid arguments. Activating the grand formation took time—especially if they wanted it to reach its full power.

But doing so early meant sealing the gates and abandoning everyone still outside. Those people would be overrun and torn apart by the devil creatures.

Yet, if they waited too long, there was no telling how much of the formation’s power could be activated before the devil tide reached them. If it reached even thirty percent strength, it could block out all devil creatures below the Sovereign Lord level. But if it didn’t reach that threshold in time, the consequences would be dire.

Just then, a powerful voice rang out.

“Enough! The Four Cardinal Alliance does not abandon its own! The enemy is still at a distance—there’s time to activate the grand formation,” declared a young woman.

She was beautiful and carried herself with heroic poise. But it was her eyes—sharp, unyielding, resolute—that made her stand out. She was a Sovereign sprout and a newly advanced Human Emperor. Moreover, her aura surged with confidence, clearly far surpassing her peers.

“Su Yu, this is not your place to speak!” the donkey-faced elder snapped. “Don’t think your reputation among the juniors gives you the right to ignore seniority! There are many stronger geniuses in the alliance than you are, and you aren’t qualified to strategize at this level!”

This woman was Su Yu, a powerful figure amongst the Four Cardinal Alliance’s junior generation. She was originally from the Southern Alliance, but after the laws of the world had recovered, she quickly surged into one of their top young leaders.

“Old fellow, what did you say?!”

Thousands of young disciples immediately raised their weapons at the elder, their eyes blazing with fury. Just one word from Su Yu, and they would strike.

These were her old subordinates—loyal veterans from the battlefield. Each of them was a seasoned warrior.

The elder’s face darkened, but before he could retort, the city lord stepped forward.

The city lord said, “I am the city lord, so what I say counts. We will wait for them. If there is a problem, I will take responsibility.”

“You will take responsibility? And how are you going to do that?” sneered the donkey-faced elder.

The city lord’s gaze sharpened like a blade. “With my head.”

The elder paled and finally held his tongue, seemingly wise enough to recognize when he’d pushed too far.

Just then, someone spotted a lone figure approaching the city from a distance.

“Eh, is that an outsider?”

It was quite obvious as Long Chen wasn’t wearing the standard robes of the Four Cardinal Alliance.

“He’s a Human Emperor. Where’d he come from?”

“It looks like he’s also being chased by the devil creatures.”

As the city’s defenders discussed, Long Chen approached the gates. He suddenly rubbed his face, altering his appearance completely.

His skin grew paler, his cheeks rounded with a bit of baby fat. He even looked a bit wretched now. In moments, Long Chen had transformed into a near-perfect imitation of Mo Nian.

Long Chen hid Evilmoon and pulled out a random bow from his spatial ring. Then he lowered his hood, concealing part of his face. Visually, he closely resembled Mo Nian. The only difference was the bone-deep arrogance radiating from him—something even Mo Nian couldn’t match.

When Long Chen almost reached the city, the donkey-faced elder barked, “Stop right there! You aren’t from the Four Cardinal Alliance. Who are you?!”

Frowns appeared on the faces of the city’s defenders. Even if this guy was not from the Four Cardinal Alliance, he was a human just like them. How could this elder lock him outside?

This was a human city. As long as this guy was human, he was qualified to enter. Furthermore, this was not the time for interrogation—certainly not when a human’s life was on the line.

Su Yu was outraged. Just as she was about to speak, that black-robed man smiled wantonly.

“The limitless palace in front of the limitless mountain, the limitless pine before the limitless gate… Dreams of heavenly geniuses vanish without a trace as soon as they encounter Mo Nian!”

…And just like that, the entire wall fell silent.

No wonder Mo Nian liked these dramatic entrances—it really was fun.

The city’s experts were baffled. Just who was this fellow? How was he in the mood to spout something like that?

“You little bastard! Answer properly, or the moment you step foot in this city, I’ll kill you myself!” the elder raged.

Long Chen ignored the threats and continued, “Time is like a blade that slashes down heavenly geniuses. Light and dark are arrows piercing the heroes of the world. Only I, Mo Nian, am invincible! The nine heavens and ten lands belong to me! Gods and devils kneel beneath my feet. The world itself will rest in my palm. Now tell me—is there anywhere beneath the heavens where I, Mo Nian, cannot go?!”

Stunned silence. Some experts started to wonder if this fellow had a few screws loose.

Just then, Long Chen arrived before the city.

In response, the donkey-faced elder furiously stepped forward and slammed a palm at him.
