Gary’s body began shifting into his Dragon Ash Lycan form. He felt every muscle straining and stretching, his body instinctively moving through each stage of the transformation. Usually, he couldn’t access his Dragon form without first achieving the Ash form, so his body automatically took that initial step.
His body shifted into the Ash form first, yet Gary could still sense the restrictions pressing against him, like chains of swirling energy emanating from Unzoku, tightening and constricting his every move.
But then, further changes began. His fur rippled, changing its color and texture, while potent energy surged and spiraled within him. A sharp, agonizing sensation pierced his back as massive wings erupted outward, stretching wide.
‘I don’t know what Unzoku plans to do if he captures them. I can’t let that happen. I have to do this, I have to make this work!’ Gary thought desperately, determination fueling his will.
Unzoku raised his hand in alarm, startled by the sudden burst of radiant energy glowing brilliantly beside him. His eyes widened, momentarily blinded by the overwhelming spectacle unfolding before him. When the transformation was complete, an entirely new, fearsome version of Gary stood before him.
“What in the abomination…is that?” Unzoku shouted, disbelief heavy in his voice.
Gary flexed his newfound wings, powerful gusts swirling around him. Turning sharply, he locked eyes with Unzoku, golden energy cascading from his mouth, enveloping his body in a blazing aura.
“I can move now, you damn bastard!” Gary roared defiantly, propelling himself forward with an explosive burst of speed, his wings flapping powerfully.
His body slammed forcefully into Unzoku, lifting him slightly off the ground. They crashed violently through multiple trees, splintering trunks and branches as their struggle carved a destructive path through the forest.
‘I can move again,’ Gary thought, adrenaline surging through him. ‘Just like I hoped. This form, it’s the key. I can fight him now. He might be the first Werewolf, but I’ve defeated Werewolves before, even those whose powers awakened long before mine.’
‘This current state, it conquered Lupus’s true Alpha form. If it could do that, it can defeat whatever Unzoku has become, too.’
Unzoku reached out with his massive hand, gripping Gary tightly and slamming him fiercely atop the head. The brutal strike shattered Gary’s hold and sent his body crashing violently into the ground.
Despite the shock of the impact, Gary sprang swiftly to his feet, every nerve alert. He saw another monstrous claw hurtling toward him, prompting an instinctive reaction, he raised one wing, thrusting it out forcefully to intercept the strike.
His wing collided heavily with Unzoku’s claw, knocking it sharply aside with a resonant clash.
“This power…what is it? How could he have grown this strong?” Unzoku roared, his voice laced with astonishment and frustration. Quickly changing his tactics, Unzoku crouched low, muscles tense, and lunged at Gary in a savage attempt to pin him down. But Gary had already soared upward, leaving Unzoku grasping at empty air.
Floating high above, Gary glanced down cautiously at Unzoku, whose eyes gleamed fiercely upward, filled with menace.
“You think you’re safe just because you’re up there?” Unzoku snarled venomously. “Gaining this much power, becoming this abomination, I wonder what it is you’ve consumed!”
His gaze darkened, filled with hunger and anticipation. “But it doesn’t matter,” he sneered, licking his sharp teeth ominously. “Once I devour you, all your strength will become mine.”
Unzoku bent his knees deeply, muscles coiled like a spring, ready to leap. Gary leaned his head back urgently, feeling energy swiftly gather and build within his chest, flooding upward to his throat.
Unzoku launched skyward, the sheer force of his leap cracking the earth beneath him. Simultaneously, Gary opened his jaws wide, releasing a powerful, blinding beam of golden energy. The blast slammed directly into Unzoku, sending him tumbling violently back to the ground, the golden blaze swelling and spreading explosively upon impact.
‘I have to win this! I have to pour every ounce of power into this attack,’ Gary thought desperately. ‘I don’t have much time left in this form, if I lose now, it’s over for everyone!’
The overwhelming golden energy completely concealed Unzoku from sight. But suddenly, to Gary’s horror, the dazzling blaze split apart. A powerful stream of energy cut straight through his attack, racing swiftly toward him.
Reacting instantly, Gary stopped his own assault, narrowly dodging to the side as the destructive force rushed past, leaving him breathless and momentarily shaken.
Suspended in the air, Gary stared down anxiously at Unzoku, who simply stood below, unmoving. Gary had managed to land two powerful strikes by surprise, yet somehow Unzoku’s body still seemed completely unaffected.
Unlike his fight with Lupus, who had been visibly injured by the same attacks, Unzoku appeared untouched, standing steady and strong, almost mockingly calm.
‘What can I do? I don’t have much time left,’ Gary thought desperately. ‘Should I do what I did before? Grab Kai and Xin and flee from here? But then what? Unzoku’s still strong, too strong.’
His thoughts raced rapidly, filled with uncertainty. ‘If Unzoku decides to attack, everyone else will have to protect the city against him. Maybe the best thing I can do right now is try to weaken him, inflict as much damage as possible, and give the others some chance at fighting back.’
Just then, Unzoku finally made a move, but not in the way Gary expected. Slowly raising his hand, Unzoku stared intently at a mysterious marking that was gradually fading from his skin.
‘I’ve used more energy than I planned,’ Unzoku thought, irritation clear even in his private musings. ‘The results were disappointing, not good enough at all. This situation isn’t in my favor anymore; it’s not worth risking everything here.’
Gary watched, bewildered, as Unzoku abruptly turned away. Without warning, the powerful figure leaped off, disappearing swiftly into the dense forest, retreating from the battle scene entirely.
