MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith
Chapter 1521 - 1521: Semi-automatic ProductionWhoosh!
After taking a quick rest to recover the mental energy he spent in creating the perfect set of instructions, Valyr did a bit of stretching before getting straight to work by conjuring more of the translucent copies.
“[Ephemeral Bodies of the First Blacksmith].”
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Already getting a rough idea of how much energy each copy would take from him while moving, the young man went ahead and conjured four more copies, bringing up the total number of copies that were currently active to five.
Placing the anvils the four other copies would need evenly on both sides of the first copy’s anvil, Valyr soon willed the copies to move towards their respective positions before sending each one their respective set of actions.
“I suppose I should do a dry run first,” murmured Valyr as he chucked in all of the materials needed to forge one of the pieces of equipment for the forging quotas.
Whoosh!
Keeping an eye on the furnace’s temperature, the young man then looked back at the copies, pondering about what purpose each one would serve during the forging process.
By the time the materials he chucked got up to their optimal temperature, Valyr sent some of the other copies a renewed set of actions, having now taken the purpose of each copy into consideration.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Placing all of the materials in front of the leftmost copy, the young man watched as it swiftly got to work, showing the same level of consistency and finesse as the first copy he had tested the set of actions on earlier.
However, unlike the first copy, the leftmost copy set the processed material on the anvil of the copy to its right, allowing that copy to start moving according to the purpose Valyr had put into it.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Watching both of the copies move perfectly according to the instructions he’d given them, Valyr could not help but smile as he watched the remaining three copies come to life in response to a piece of material before placed in front of them.
By the time the fifth copy was done with its process, it placed the finished material to its right, which Valyr grabbed and brought to his own anvil before doing his own thing to it.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Taking out the Hammer of Beginnings, as well as a few other materials needed for the equipment, it did not take long for the first piece of equipment to be finished, causing the young man to feel a sense of satisfaction the moment he was done.
Chucking in another batch of materials into the furnace, Valyr looked at Ataraxia for a bit before asking, “How long did it all take?”
“Do I also include the time spent waiting for the materials to get up to temperature?” asked Ataraxia in return, to which the young man shook his head.
Nodding in response, the former closed his eyes for a bit before speaking in a slightly indifferent tone. “An hour and 20.”
“An hour and 20 minutes?” asked Valyr rhetorically, the gears in his mind turning as he thought about it for a bit more. “Well that can’t be right.”
“The last time I took that much time to forge a piece of equipment was back when I was still getting used to [Ephemeral Limbs].”
“It isn’t really surprising if you think about it,” replied Ataraxia, pointing at the copies. “Notice how you used five copies to process the materials needed for a single piece of equipment?”
“Each one is necessary for the process,” said Valyr in return, feeling a bit offended by his other self’s words. “One is for the preliminary tempering, the one is for shaping, the other…”
“…But that can all be done by just one copy, right?” Before the young man could continue listing down each of the copy’s processes, Ataraxia cut him short as he asked this question.
Thankfully, that question was more than enough to wake up Valyr to what was going on.
“Right…” murmured the young man after a bit of thought, his eyes starting to glisten the more he thought about it. “You’re right!”
“Rather than having five copies work on the materials needed for one piece of equipment, I could have each copy do that, increasing the output by five times!”
“That’s…” Although he was glad his original identity had figured it out, Ataraxia could not help but scratch his head in response to the way Valyr spoke about it.
After all, did he not even think about it while refining the set of actions for the copies?
‘Probably just a case of tunnel vision,’ concluded Ataraxia to himself, deciding to close his eyes once more as he allowed Valyr to do his thing.
“…Alright.” Now that Ataraxia had given him a different perspective on how to make use of the copies, the young man swiftly got to work, arranging the copies in a way that would allow them to work without interference from the other copies.
Adding a sixth copy to make the distribution even, Valyr then changed the set of actions he gave to each copy, having each one go through most of the forging process before deciding to add one more instruction to give the finalized product to him.
Though before he could actually put that last instruction down, the young man had another thought. ‘…On second thought, I could just have another copy deliver all of the final products to me instead.’
And so, a seventh copy was born, with Valyr giving it a set of instructions that checked if the other copies had finished working on their respective set of materials.
If they were, the copy would then take the finalized product and give it to him, allowing him to proceed with the final step of the forging process.
“Wait a second…” Just as Valyr felt that he could now continue working on completing the forging quotas he accepted from Julian, the thought of the copy delivering items to him gave him another thought that could optimize the forging process even further.
“If there’s a copy that already gives the final products to me…”
“Why don’t I also make a copy that gives the raw materials to the other copies to process?”
Though he felt like he could automate the other remaining parts of the forging process with enough time, Valyr decided that this eighth copy would be his limit for now, wanting to see how effective the entire thing was in comparison to him using all those limbs back then.
Whoosh!
Conjuring his eighth and final copy for the meantime, Valyr gave it a set of actions that would grab the materials he placed on a designated spot with a pair of tongs, only to then send it to the copies if they weren’t already working on anything else.
“Alright.” Seeing that the previous set of materials he chucked into the furnace after the previous batch had all reached their optimal temperature, Valyr went ahead and placed them all on the spot he set as the first input, prompting the eighth copy to whir to life.
“Time to see if all of this works the way I think it does.”
