Legendary Broken Player - VRMMORPG

Chapter 851 - 851 - The Vortex of No Return

Broken watched the massive whirlpool swirling at the center of the lake. The water spun with unnatural force, yet the surface remained eerily calm outside the vortex.

Something about it felt off.

Curious, he knelt down and dipped his hand into the water. Cold.

Colder than it should be.

Strangely, despite the intense energy in this place, there were no monsters nearby. As if even the creatures that roamed the canyon avoided this lake entirely.

His eyes narrowed. “If the lake isn’t deep, then why is the whirlpool this strong? This doesn’t make sense.”

He turned to Gaia. “Any guesses?”

Gaia studied the swirling water, her gaze impassive. “The current is too powerful—it’s being pulled toward something deeper.”

Broken frowned. “Deeper? As in… underground?”

Gaia remained still for a moment before answering. “Or perhaps…” She glanced at him. “It leads into the ocean depths.”

Broken’s thoughts halted. “Wait. You mean this whirlpool might be connected to the deep sea?”

The idea wasn’t impossible.

The ocean itself was still largely unexplored. No one knew what truly lurked beneath those dark waters. If this vortex led there, then—

There could be something hidden below.

Maybe even an underwater civilization.

Broken exhaled, the gears in his mind turning. “If I go down there, I might find some answers…”

Gaia’s eyes glowed faintly. “Then why not try?”

He smirked. “That’s exactly what I was thinking.”

Before making any rash decisions, he turned to Pawpaw, who was still perched lazily on the ground. “What do you think, Pawpaw?”

Pawpaw flicked his tail, ears twitching in irritation. “I don’t like this place. Too many stupid spirits.”

Broken raised an eyebrow. “Because you can’t eat them?”

Pawpaw scoffed. “They taste like air. Useless.”

Broken chuckled. “But you can eat the monsters here, right? Or are their levels too high for you?”

Pawpaw grumbled, swishing his tail. “Somehow… their taste is bad.”

Broken blinked. “…What?”

Pawpaw just curled tighter around his neck, clearly uninterested in explaining further.

That only made Broken more curious.

Broken took a step back from the swirling vortex, his mind racing with possibilities.

Should he go in?

The darkness below was impenetrable. He had no idea what was waiting for him beneath the surface. But at the same time—that was exactly why he wanted to jump.

He had always been an explorer.

When curiosity took hold of him, it was hard to resist.

But he also didn’t want to act recklessly.

Taking a deep breath, he considered his options again. What’s the worst that could happen? If things got too dangerous, he could always escape to the Moonlight Dimension.

However, once he was in the water, Polly wouldn’t be able to carry him anymore. That meant no quick getaways. He could hold his breath for a long time, so drowning wasn’t an issue.

Fighting underwater, though?

That would be a problem. He wouldn’t have the same mobility as before, and if anything down there hunted by sensing movement, he’d be at a serious disadvantage.

Then there was another concern—if he died down there. Right now, the Temple of Resurrection wasn’t finished. If he died before the crew completed it, he’d revive all the way back at Dissidia Kingdom.

Did he really want to risk getting sent back thousands of miles away?

His instincts told him this place held something important.

But was this the right time to dive in?

He needed to weigh the risks carefully.

Broken decided to return to the ship. There was no point in rushing into the unknown without proper preparation.

When he arrived back at the shore, the crew was still hard at work, busy constructing their outpost. No monster attacks had happened near the coastline, which was a relief.

He joined the others and shared what he had found.

The reactions were mixed.

“That’s such a weird decision,” Vallrick muttered, stretching his arms. “You’re telling me you found a massive whirlpool pulling into the depths of the ocean… and you want to jump in?”

“It’s probably for the best,” SexyBloom sighed in relief. “Everything about this island is insane. Those ghost spirits? Creepy. The monsters? Worse.”

“Still, it’s strange,” SexyGrill added. “This place doesn’t just feel like a normal island. Everything here seems to have a deeper history.”

They all agreed on that.

There was something unusual about this island—its abandoned ruins, its ancient spirits, and the unsettling presence of demons in its past.

But for now, they focused on stabilizing their foothold.

They spent the next week on the island.

Most of their time was spent hunting monsters in the surrounding areas, clearing out smaller threats to make travel easier. The encounters were challenging, but they didn’t push too deep—not yet.

And finally—after seven days—

The Temple of Resurrection was complete.

As soon as the final touches were made, the crew cheered, celebrating the fact that they now had a safe respawn point on the island.

Broken and the others immediately set their resurrection spots at the temple.

Now, if they died, they wouldn’t be sent all the way back to the southern continent.

That meant one thing—

They could now explore freely.

The moment had finally arrived.

Broken was ready to dive into the unknown.

The massive whirlpool had been haunting his thoughts ever since he first discovered it.

Standing among his team, he made his intentions clear.

“I’m going in,” he said firmly. “Stay here and keep investigating the island. Find out as much as you can while I’m gone. I don’t know how long this will take, but I’ll come back when I can.”

There was a brief silence before Vallrick sighed, shaking his head. “This is the most Broken thing you could do.”

SexyGrill smirked. “At this point, I’m not even surprised.”

Broken nodded. “I have a way back. Don’t worry about me.”

With that, he turned away and took to the skies once again.

Riding Polly, he soared high into the moonlit night, the wind rushing against him as he headed straight for the hidden lake.

His earlier investigations had already confirmed one crucial detail—

The whirlpool only appeared at night.

Why?

What changed between day and night that caused it to open up?

He had no answers yet—but he was about to get them.

In the back of his mind, he also knew that Alora would soon give birth.

If anything happened, he could always return instantly to the Dissidia Kingdom. More importantly, now that the Temple of Resurrection was built, he could simply respawn on the island if he died.

No risk of losing EXP. No risk of losing his gear, because he had stored everything important inside the Moonlight Dimension.

This was as close to a zero-risk dive as it could get.

The only real danger…

Was whatever was waiting for him below.

As Polly reached the lake, Broken hovered above the whirlpool, staring down into the churning abyss.

The water twisted into a perfect spiral, pulling downward with an almost unnatural force. The glowing flower field around the lake made the scene look eerily beautiful—a violent vortex surrounded by something so peaceful.

Broken took a deep breath.

He had done far dumber things before.

This? This was just another leap of faith.

Without a second thought—

He jumped.

The instant his body hit the water, the pull was instantaneous.

The whirlpool grabbed him, yanking him downward with terrifying speed.

It was like being sucked into a void, the pressure wrapping around him, dragging him deeper and deeper. The light from above faded rapidly, swallowed by the overwhelming darkness.

There was no way to fight it—no escape.

And then—

The world vanished into the abyss.
