Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1257: Beginning Of The End (3)

Kyran found himself looking at Cyneah’s sleeping face when he woke up. At first, he felt somewhat restless when he started to regain consciousness because he did not want to go through the motions of recalling True Void’s departure again. But when he saw Cyneah, he was reminded of her silent presence and unconditional support throughout yesterday’s ordeal. That helped him sort his thoughts and view True Void’s departure more positively.

That was not to say that Kyran had little affection for True Void. Instead, he believed the latter deserved to rest after suffering for so long.

It also helped that the memories Kyran received from True Void allowed him to understand the latter’s past and how it affected the situation they were currently in.

While Kyran thought this, Cyneah stirred in her sleep and even moaned softly. He held his breath almost reflexively and stayed still, not wanting to wake her. He might have been out of it yesterday, but he knew she used magic to ease his thoughts and allow him to sleep. The least he could do was ensure she got proper rest and sleep.

Fortunately, Cyneah continued to sleep. She even let out a content sigh as she snuggled closer to Kyran. This was not the first time that he saw her like this. Nonetheless, it brought a smile to his lips.

Back in the Dragon Plane, when Kyran woke up after staying unconscious for so long, he found Cyneah asleep beside him. He remembered being shocked at first but managed to calm down soon after. However, because of his initial reaction, she woke up and got flustered for being caught.

To soothe Cyneah’s worries, Kyran embraced her tightly and whispered that he was still drowsy. Ultimately, they drifted back to sleep. Later the same day, Cyneah requested that Kyran keep pretending to be asleep, expressing her desire to remain by his side longer.

Since it had been a while since they had time to be alone, Kyran agreed. Besides, Aillos would have taken Cyneah back to the most guarded place in the palace if he learned that Kyran already regained consciousness and no longer required her

Expertise

.

Kyran suddenly felt awkward, recalling that incident. Although they only slept that day, knowing how conservative his family was and how protective his godmother was with Cyneah, they would have definitely beaten him senselessly. The reason was simple: they would not want him to take advantage of her because they were not officially together then. Even if it were Cyneah who asked that they stay together, Kyran’s family would never believe that.

At least, the circumstances had changed. They were now bound through the ritual of the Dragons, and while they decided against

Sharing a bed

Until their marriage in the Lower Realm, no one would fault them for it, given what happened.

Kyran stayed in bed while Cyneah slept. However, he did not simply watch her sleep. Though it did not bore him just by watching her, he needed to sort out the memories True Void gave him.

From True Void’s memory, Kyran’s speculation of another era before the Ancients and the Higher Being was confirmed. Those who lived during the era before The Fall were also aware of it. However, like most civilizations, the history of that era had long been forgotten.

The Ancients only managed to discover bits and pieces of that forgotten era and safely kept them.

In fact, Kyran learned that some of the things he read in the Tablet that Axil and her faction discovered in the Lower Realm were actually from that time. That explained why there were times that he felt there was a disconnect between the flow of the history written by the Ancients and the one he heard that lived in the era before The Fall. He would not have cared much. But the disconnect was too glaring, and it was hard to ignore.

The forgotten era was called the Human Era. This was the era of the Deity, and The Realm prospered.

The Deity created The Realm, The Rule, The Magic, and the Fates. And then humans were born.

However, the Deity suddenly disappeared, and his creation slowly perished. Some managed to evolve, others mutated. In the end, that era gave birth to the era of the Ancients.

The Ancients were humans that evolved after the Deity disappeared. Others would have thought that they should have been able to preserve the history of the forgotten era if their roots were humans. However, there was a time during their evolution when several years passed without them realizing it. After completing their evolution, The Realm changed so much that they hardly saw the remnants of the Human Era.

As if to compensate for the lack of ’living forms’ in The Realm, other beings, ranging from non-living that gained sentient to creatures with beastly features, were born.

Among these beings, one showed great potential in understanding The Magic. That being ended up getting the favor of the Deity’s creation and soon became the most powerful mage in The Realm.

That was the Higher Being.

The evolved humans, realizing that the Human Era had long disappeared with time during their evolution, referred to them as the Ancients. To them, their existence was like that of ancient humans that had been forgotten. ŕàΝꝋᛒÈS̩

Eventually, the Ancients grew, and those who knew about the Human Era died, leaving only a short record of that time to their King. Several years passed, and this record ended up in True Void’s possession. As the new King of the Ancients then, he inherited that record from the previous King.

Unlike the kings that ruled before True Void, he was interested in the history of the Human Era. However, due to the passage of time, finding information about them was already impossible.

At least, that had been the case until True Void received a premonition.

The Fates, one of the Deity’s creations, had gone rogue. They had been consumed by negative energy after realizing that their master, their Deity, had abandoned them.

Finally, True Void, whose name was True Sage, learned of The Fall that would happen and split The Realm into two. He tried to come up with ways to prevent it. However, his

Status

Was too low compared to the Higher Being and the Fates, who were the culprits behind The Fall.

Until one day, True Void received another premonition. Surprisingly, he was not the only one who received it. The Four Greatest Minds also received it, which was how they started a project to create an artificial magic core.

Initially, their project only aimed at creating a standard artificial magic core. But then, they aimed to make one that could absorb the Ancient Magic Energy.

Back then, the Higher Being maintained peace throughout The Realm. But that did not mean there were no conflicts. In any case, the Higher Being was like a newborn, full of curiosity. So when he heard what the Ancients were doing, he got curious and wanted to help.

Seeing this, True Sage and the Four Greatest Minds finally saw the path to their intended end.

It was hard because they realized after receiving the

Premonition

That The Fall had to happen to get the end they hoped for.

When The Fall happened, True Sage received his last premonition. No— rather than calling it a premonition, it was more of a realization.

He was that era’s Realm Scion. That alone was why he could successfully maneuver the situation toward the path that would lead to their desired end.

Unfortunately, with the split of The Realm, his control and influence was reduced. In the end, he was consumed by negative emotions because of how the Higher Being mistreated his people.

But even that still followed the path that led them to the desirable end.

Losing himself... terrorizing the humans who were his descendants... meeting Caelan... getting half of his soul sealed on the Macabre Glacier, a treasure he created himself, while half of his soul was placed inside Caelan’s staff... and finally, meeting Kyran, and passing on his legacy so the latter could finally become the new Realm Scion.

Kyran closed his eyes and sighed inwardly. All this time, he had believed that the Legacy of the Dark Sage was the Macabre Glacier. He did not expect that the rumored Dark Sage had been with him all along and that the legacy he left behind was the role of the Realm Scion.

Kyran had avoided matters related to the Realm Scion like a plague. Now, he could no longer do so. He was adamant about not inheriting it before. But knowing True Void entrusted him with that role, there was no way he would ignore it.

’...Their desired end, huh...’ Kyran thought, recalling the conversation between True Sage and the Four Greatest Minds.

If he had to compare their desired end to one word, he would choose

Ambitious

. Nevertheless, he understood why they wanted it.

In fact, he also wanted to achieve that end. Explore hidden tales at empire
