GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2118 - 2118: Another One.

All of this information flashed through the minds of Legion as they gazed at the unassuming base. If they hadn’t forced Amelia to spill the beans, they wouldn’t look twice at this building, much less suspect that it is the base of operation of a group of five godclads.

Legion-4 whistled appreciatively and said, “How much did we spend on our arrays? Wasn’t it 20 gold coins? Yet they spent over 1,000 gold coins to secure their base. That is 50 times what we spent on our basement.”

Legion-5 corrected him, “We spent 21 gold coins, actually. But your point still stands. These guys have a lot of money and care a lot about their safety, as they should.”

Legion-1 nodded and said, “Indeed, they should care about their safety. If not for the fact that they cared so much about their safety, we would have raided their base already.”

Legion-7 said to Legion-1, who was in control of the body, “Don’t get distracted by the building. Keep our eyes on the surroundings.”

Legion-1 snorted and said, “I know what to do.”

The two of them were about to argue when Legion-12, who was using the mental probe ability to scan their surroundings, suddenly interjected, “Get ready, people. Here they come.”

Someone had arrived within the vicinity of the base. It was the boss of the group that reached the location of the base first. He was the strongest, and he was even faster than the rank 2 traveler.

The rank 3 assassin didn’t approach the base immediately. Instead, he wanted some distance away from it and checked the base and everything around to make sure that there was nothing out of place.

Seeing as the base hadn’t been attacked, he sighed in relief. But he was still being cautious. He didn’t want to rush ahead to enter the base only to be ambushed on the way.

So he decided to wait for the others to arrive. That will give him time to survey the environment very well. Once the other three arrive, he will have more confidence in facing whatever will happen when he tries to enter their base.

His actions were hidden. As a thief, it is very difficult to spot him. In fact, his very first divine ability is the cloak ability that covers him in a cloak of darkness.

The cloak of darkness makes him blend very well in the darkness. Since the tenebrium world is mostly night, the world is a playground for him.

The divine flesh he assimilated also gave him the passive talent of being light-footed and difficult to sense. This would have worked on most people except seers, killers, and telepaths.

Killers have a vague sense for living things. They can always sense the living things around them. It is a passive ability of theirs. Only a cloaked assassin can evade the perception of a killer. Their passive ability won’t be enough.

The boss had used his Cloak ability, so their passive ability from the path of killing didn’t sense him. But their passive ability from the pathway of the telepath noticed him.

Their passive ability from the pathway of the telepath is their ability to see the minds and emotions of people within a hundred meters. The rank 3 assassin was within 50 meters of them, so they noticed him as soon as he arrived.

As for their passive ability from their pathway of slavery, it is being able to sense and find their slaves wherever they are. So even without looking, they know that Amelia is an abandoned house down the road.

They ignored Amelia and focused all their attention on the rank 3 assassin. They were sure that they would be able to kill the man in a fight because they used to be an assassin in their future, but they didn’t want to fight him.

They didn’t want to confront him at all because he is faster than them by right as a rank 3 godclad and an assassin. Besides, they didn’t want him to see them at all for what they are about to do.

So they hid themselves while the assassin crept closer to them. The assassin had cloaked himself and was examining the surroundings to make sure that nothing was amiss. He had confidence in his stealth and speed , so he wasn’t worried too much about encountering the enemy.

He was actually hoping to encounter the enemy. That way he would know of their existence and be able to plan accordingly.

Legion waited for him to reach 15 meters from them. Then they made contact with his mind and bound it with their Bondage ability.

The black snake itself needed just 10 units of spiritual energy to form. This would have been enough to bind a normal rank 1 godclad. After all, no matter how much they resist, a rank 1 godclad will only have 10 units of spiritual energy and usually 10 spiritual power.

But a rank 3 godclad is a different matter. A normal rank 3 godclad has a spiritual power and spiritual energy of 40.

The spiritual power of the rank 3 assassin is already four times the amount of theirs. If not for the fact that the assassin couldn’t use his spiritual power to protect his mind, they surely wouldn’t have been able to bind him.

A rank 3 telepath would have surely destroyed the mark of bondage and stopped it from binding his mind. But a rank 3 assassin could only resist ineffectively, which cost them an extra 40 spiritual energy to bind his mind.

The man didn’t want to accept his fate even then. Legion had to torture him before he surrendered.

It had cost them an extra 20 units of spiritual energy to trap the boss compared to Amelia, who is a rank 2 seer. But it had taken about the same amount of pain to make the two of them accept their situation.

It is because power is power and pain is pain. The two of them are independent of each other. Power doesn’t increase pain tolerance. Not unless the godclad is an undying.
