GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2083 - 2083: New And Improved.

When he got to the church, the high priest was enthusiastic to him. The man wanted to treat him to tea and some snacks. But he wasn’t in a hurry.

He could guess why the high priest was happy to see him. Apparently, he wasn’t the only one happy with Tesla’s performance.

The god of steam must have also been getting the benefits of a revolutionary technology that relies on the steam engine. This benefit is more valuable than the 2% that the god of steam will earn from the use of the patents.

So the high priest was being a gracious host to him. But he didn’t want to waste time though. He went straight to why he came to the church of steam.

There were a lot of letters for him. Some of them were from Tesla, but most of them were from others.

The ratio was 30 to 1. There was thirty times more letters from other people to him than there was from Tesla.

He didn’t check any of the other letters from other people yet. He only checked the latest one from Tesla.

He wasn’t disappointed by what he found. The recent letter from Tesla was the financial report of Tesla’s company.

From the report, he learned that the company had only just broken even in these three months. It is because the cost of operation had increased drastically as Tesla invested a lot of money to produce products with the new technology.

There was the cost of hiring more workers, building more factories, buying more equipment, and so on and so forth. The investment had only begun to pay off, so the 1,213 gold that he received would be the least amount of money he would earn from their partnership.

When he was at the church of steam, he decided to come clean to the priest and told him that he would never become a machinist.

He didn’t want to keep the priest’s and the god of steam’s expectations hanging. That can make the god of steam angry.

Besides, he was going to be using them for the foreseeable future; it was best to clear the air.

He even told them why he didn’t want to become a machinist. He told them that he didn’t want to be a part of the struggle between the god of steam and the god of craft.

He didn’t tell them that Tesla might become a god in the future. If were to become a machinist and Tesla becomes a god, he would be in very big trouble for helping Tesla.

Even though the high priest believed him about his intentions to stay away from the conflicts of the machinist pathway and agreed that there would be some danger if he became a machinist, the man promised that the god of steam would be able to protect him.

He didn’t accept that kindness because it would cost him at least his freedom for the god of steam to protect him and because no one can protect him if the god of steam decides to harm him.

Instead, he bid farewell to the high priest and went to the office of the lamp bearers. He went there to officially become a godclad.

He walked all the way to the office of the lamp bearers carrying two large bags of letters. The bags were light, but it didn’t feel like he was carrying anything at all.

And even though he ran all the way to his destination, his breathing was still calm, and he didn’t sweat at all. It felt good as it reminded him of the great power he used to have.

This is just the start, of course. There is still a great deal of power to acquire.

He is still a human despite his current power. He will need to become a godclad if he is to reach the top, reconnect with the origin, and become an Absolute.

When he reached the office of the lamp bearers, the way he was treated had changed. For one, the two gatekeepers were more friendly with him. They weren’t stern with him and even made some jokes about him.

He smiled at them in return. But the changes hadn’t ended there.

The second change was that the receptionist became respectful to him. She actually stood up from her seat to greet him when she recognized who he was.

The third change was that other probationary officers didn’t dare to look him in the eyes. They bowed whenever they encountered him.

The fourth change was that he didn’t have to wait a long while to meet the fake bosses. They met with him as soon as they were informed of his arrival.

The final change and probably the most important one was that he was allowed to go to the basement. The fake boss brought him below the ground to see the real boss of the organization.

He met the boss in a small office. The lighting was bad as the source of light was a few lightstones embedded into the world. The light stones were too few in number to properly illuminate the room, but he could see fine because of his better eyesight.

The real boss was a lady. She had white hair just like the fake boss. This is the iconic hair color of godclads on the path of justice.

She also had white eyes. It made her look as if she was blind. It is another iconic feature that can be used to identify godclads on the path of justice.

It is said that their white hair represents how godclads in the path of justice are free from blemish, and their blind eyes indicate their blindness to identity.

They will prosecute anyone they find with sin regardless of their identity. Even the king of a country won’t be able to get away with their crimes because of their identity.

She stood up to greet him when he arrived. She even offered her hand for a shake.
