First Demonic Dragon

Chapter 996 - 996: The Doorway

“Damn fat headed old man… no vision… no thought.”

Abaddon tore through his closet like a man possessed.

As he searched for clothes, he grumbled irritably to himself and called his father just about every name he could think of.

He found his traveling clothes and pulled them out in short order, peeling away his current sweatsuit in favor of his usual black fur-lined vest and pants.

He started to grab a sword too when he heard a noise behind him.

He looked back to find Sif staring at him warily with the rest of her body hidden behind the doorframe.

If he checked outside, Abaddon believed that he might find several other women hiding in attendance behind her.

“You know, you girls might hurt my feelings if you stand outside hiding from me like I’m an uncontrollable drunkard.”

Sif blinked, but didn’t come out of hiding. “Can never be too careful… If you’ll beat down on the dad you love so much, then everyone else can’t be too safe either, can they?”

Abaddon did not look amused. That, of course, amused Sif greatly.

One by one, the rest of the wives trickled into the room… minus Audrina.

Even in a room as full as this one, Abaddon did not miss her absence.

Her not being here solidified his resolve even further.

“Can we leave a little earlier? I kinda wanna have something else to focus on for a while.”

Bekka and Sif raised a brow.

“Sure… How soon exactly?”

Abaddon smiled wryly. “…Now maybe?”

“Abaddon…” They all said aloud.

“I’m not being avoidant, I swear.” He held up his hands.

“We don’t believe you.”

“The faster that we go and get those bastards, the faster that we can bring Drina home. Are you all telling me that you don’t miss her?”

“You know that we all miss Audrina. But don’t pretend that your putting even more of a rush on things is solely about her absence. It’s not fair to her.” Bekka poked him in the chest.

Abaddon opened his mouth to respond, and she covered his mouth with her hand.

“Maybe think before speaking for a second, honey.”

Abaddon held up his hand.

A small mouth grew on the center of his palm, and his voice came out of it.

“I was just going to say that you were right.”

“Oh…” Bekka slowly dropped her hand. “Well, you can say that as much as you want-“

Lisa pulled her by the ear and moved her out of the way.

She looked up at her husband with a slightly worried look on her face.

“…What if Asmodeus is right? What if we’re about to make a big mistake, and we should be looking for another way to get things done?”

Abaddon wrapped his arms around Lisa’s waist and pulled her into his chest.

“…Are you worried about me?”

Lisa had been trying not to insult him by saying that. But it was the truth.

“…In every timeline, being near the doors has driven you mad. Now I know that you have overcome it, but you’ve never been inside of it before. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“I’m leaving a body behind, love.” Abaddon insisted. “Just like Bekka and Sif. You’ll be able to hold onto us even after we’re gone.”

Lisa felt a little better. Though just barely.

“You can always come with us, my love.” Bekka grabbed her from behind. “We won’t mind the company.”

Lisa smiled wryly. “I’m afraid that I might hold you all back. I am not the particularly destructive type…”

“And Bekka probably wouldn’t stop flirting with you long enough to focus on what we needed to do.” Sif shrugged.

“Joke’s on you, because I can flirt with any of you and stay focused.” Bekka stuck her chest out proudly.

“I guess we’ll find out when we’re inside, won’t we…” Sif slipped outside of the room while shooting a lingering gaze towards Bekka and Abaddon. “Be ready in ten~”

Bekka slowly turned around and looked at her husband with a weak gaze. “….I’m not going to make it.”

“I might not either.”

“Do you think that when we’re in the other place we would have some time to-“

“Probably not.”

“But we could try to-“

“I am almost positive that opportunity will not become available to us.”

“But if it does, then-“

“Of course we’re going to take it.”

“Good.”

Bekka planted a kiss on her husband’s cheek before she sprinted towards her own closet.

Leaving Abaddon alone with the rest of the wives, who were staring at him cautiously.

Belloc opened the front door and stepped inside.

As he entered, he saw Mira bolting down the stairs with her pets in tow.

“Where are you going in such a rush?” Belloc tilted his head.

Mira flipped off the railing and landed on the floor gracefully. “Basement!”

“We have a basement…?” He scratched his head.

“Yes, we have a basement.” Mira sighed. “You’d know that if you or Stheno ever stepped outside of your room, or those funky ass gaming chairs.”

“Being Tehom’s most popular streamer couple is a demanding role. The wheel of creation must never stop turning.” Bell shrugged.

“You guys aren’t even that funny, people just watch you because you never have a shirt on and Stheno only wears a sports bra.”

“We like to be comfortable.”

“You like to be sluts is more like it.”

“What was that, eternal virgin?”

A dagger shot towards his neck, but Belloc ducked just before he could lose his head.

Mira turned around and started heading towards a section of the house Belloc rarely visited.

For some reason, he decided to follow in her tracks even after she had just tried to kill him.

“You been with mom this whole time?” Mira asked without looking back.

“Yup…” He sighed and clasped his hands behind his head. “She’s… been better.”

“…How so?”

“She cried a lot. Told me lots of stories about her childhood. She drank a little bit too… Did you know that Mom doesn’t like Hot Pockets?”

Mira paused and stared at her brother with an incredulous look on her face. “You tried to feed our mother Hot Pockets? I’ve never even seen her eat something out of the pantry.”

“She has to have eaten cereal at one point, right?”

“Dad tried to get her to try cinnamon toast crunch one time, and I think it’s the only time I’ve ever seen them be on the verge of divorce.”

Though unintentional, her words made Belloc pause.

He loved his family, but maybe he hadn’t quite paid enough attention to them over the years.

If he thought hard about it, he realized there weren’t a whole lot of finer details that he could pull up about them.

His dad liked sports or something. His oldest brother liked fried foods and cheese.

…That was over fifty percent of his knowledge right there.

Maybe if he knew more, he would have been able to put together a better care package for his mother. Then, he could have at least seen her smile a bit more.

“…Maybe I do stay in my room too much.” He grumbled.

Mira, Camazotz, and Entei paused in their tracks and stared at him like he had just admitted to committing a federal crime.

“…What?!”

“Shut up, all of you.” He rolled his eyes. “Anyway, why are we going to the basement, and what the fuck is in our basement anyway?”

“Do you remember that ominous, all-powerful doorway to destruction and death that our family is supposed to guard with our lives?”

Belloc nearly lost all of the color in his face.

To this day, Bell has never actually seen the gates. He heard whispers and knew them to be somewhere in the house that only his parents could access.

When he was younger, he, Apophis, and Thrudd wandered around the house late at night looking for it. Erica found them.

They were swiftly sent back to bed, and Belloc was never interested in the doorway from that moment forward.

Mira came to a stop in the hallway and waved her hand in front of a door.

There was a clicking noise and the door opened up on it’s own—shocking Belloc to his very core.

He barely even noticed the deluge of negative energy that washed over them like a tidal wave.

“It’s been right here the whole damn time!?”

“Yeah. Didn’t you know that?”

“No! I thought we weren’t supposed to be near it, much less know where it is!”

“Dad would’ve told you about it once you turned 1,000. All you had to do was ask.” Mira shrugged.

Belloc opened his mouth several times, but found that no words could suffice for how he was feeling.

But he did have something he thought he should ask.

“Am I a shitty family member..?”

“Sometimes. Let’s go!”

Mira led her brother and pets through the door.

They moved down a long staircase illuminated by torches with purple flame.

Reaching the bottom of the staircase took several minutes of movement, but eventually the group arrived at a single wooden door.

Mira threw it open without reservation, and Belloc nearly fell on his face when he realized that over half the family was already in there. They were circling a large hole in the floor.

Abaddon, Sif, and Bekka looked up at those who entered and smiled.

“Come to see us off?”
