Chapter 277: No Time
The manipulator’s white eyes were wide open. As a being born of darkness, the things it had witnessed in its lifetime were beyond count. Darkness creatures were all linked through the very force that birthed them.
They could see what others of their kind had seen, experience what many others had felt. And because of this, even though the manipulator had never faced something like this before, a shudder still ran down its spine.
Everything about this made the darkness in it tremble. It had fought against beings of vita before, but never had it felt this, true fear. Primal fear. The kind that stirred from the core of one’s being.
It snapped out of its muddled thoughts the moment it met those bright green eyes. They pierced into its own, deeper, through its soul and into the very makings of its darkness.
The creature tore its gaze away just in time to see the blade screaming toward its neck. Malakai’s speed was incomparable to earlier, and the intent his blade carried was absolute. Death.
The manipulator’s white eyes narrowed, and the fog of darkness erupted from its body, colliding with the incoming blade in a blinding burst of light.
But only a heartbeat passed before its eyes flew open again. They trembled as Malakai’s blade tore through the darkness and emerged inches from its neck.
It barely moved when the blade struck. A large chunk of its neck was sliced clean through, black ichor gushing like a geyser. The manipulator staggered in shock. What was once a puny human filth… had just landed a lethal blow.
It had only begun to comprehend the moment when another blade filled its vision, this time, coming for its head.
Its eyes constricted. “Enough games,” it snarled, and the darkness around it surged.
It raised its palm and the shadows obeyed. An orb of pure darkness formed, swirling with terrifying force. A second later, it blasted forth in a beam of raw force, surging toward Malakai.
Given how close Malakai was, even the manipulator knew evasion was impossible. It smiled inwardly, Malakai was finished.
But the opposite occurred.
The green glow around Malakai flared, and vita flooded toward him in droves.
The green light thickened and he blasted forward with insane speed, slicing through the beam of darkness like steel cutting through a stream of water.
The manipulator’s eyes barely had time to widen before Malakai reached it. His head slammed into the creature’s like a battering ram through a fragile gate.
It was ripped off its feet, head jerking back with savage force. The rest of its body followed like a missile, shooting through the terrain.
Wind howled around it, trees shattered as it crashed through boulder after boulder. But through the haze of pain, one thought dominated its mind, how was this even possible? How had he become this strong!?
The manipulator shook off the daze, clearing its mind. There would be time for questions later. For now, there was only battle.
Its vision cleared just in time to see Malakai descending from above. His glowing green eyes remained as cold and impassive as ever.
Both scythes were brandished in the air as his body twisted, his weapon coming down like judgment itself.
A blast of darkness erupted from the manipulator, launching it sideways, narrowly evading the cleaving strike. It twisted in the air and raised its arms. A blade of darkness formed, and it brought it down on Malakai.
But Malakai spun, and his scythes spun with him. He whirled in the air, the motion releasing gusts so fierce they resembled a tornado.
The weapons clashed in a deafening burst of force that cracked the earth for kilometers.
But then, the manipulator’s eyes narrowed once more. Malakai’s blade sliced clean through its sword of darkness, and continued its spiraling path toward its chest.
More darkness exploded beneath the creature, launching it into the sky.
But it had no time to catch its breath. Malakai erupted after it in a pillar of green light, scythe gleaming as it screamed toward its head once more.
“This filth!”
Another sword of darkness materialized in its hand, and it brought it up to meet the attack. Their collision sparked a violent burst of force and light that swallowed the skies.
But before the haze could settle, another scythe came from the right.
It barely jerked its head back in time. The gleam of the blade flashed past where its skull had just been.
The manipulator shoved down the growing panic and prepared to counter, only for its gaze to catch the other scythe already screaming in from the side.
‘Fast!’
It dodged again in a burst of darkness, but Malakai gave no room to breathe. Another came from below.
A chain had linked both scythes together and Malakai moved with terrifying finesse, his scythes whirling around him like blades of death.
He weaved and spun through the air, changing direction at will. Each swing was relentless, the scythes circling around him like a storm. As the creature dodged one, the other was already coming from another angle.
The manipulator was overwhelmed. Malakai’s weapons were superior, his speed equal, if not greater, and his technique… it was unreal.
Multiple vita made footholds appeared in the sky as Malakai shifted through them, adjusting footwork mid air. He moved like a phantom, dodging strikes and countering with deadlier ones.
No words could capture the sheer magnitude of the manipulator’s shock. But it still wasn’t given the chance to dwell on it.
Malakai appeared right in front of it in a flash of speed.
Slash!
The creature felt something rip, and its gaze fell to its right arm just as black ichor erupted into the air. The arm was severed. Pain surged through its being, but before it could react, a brutal kick smashed into the side of its face.
It was hurled through the air, tearing toward the ground.
Boom!
The terrain buckled and shattered from the force.
“This filth! This filth!”
The creature was already on its feet before the haze cleared, its wide, trembling eyes fixed on the small stump that had once been its arm.
