Chapter 271: History
Blood gushed out from the figure’s severed thigh as Malakai’s weapon struck.
For a moment, there was nothing but stillness. It was as though the world was still struggling to comprehend the events.
Everything that occurred during this battle could be said to be impossible. A battle between a synergy stage and a node formation evolved should be set in stone. One punch, and all was over.
The figure believed this notion, and so did every single person inside the dome. Yet, a single punch hadn’t ended the battle. Even a second punch hadn’t either.
A third could have, perhaps. But the synergy stage evolved hadn’t been given the chance.
The result of what occurred today wouldn’t be believed by many. They would call it a rumor. They would call it a lie.
But of the people in the dome, only a few had witnessed the impossible happen with their own eyes, the group of assassins approaching the scene, the figure, and the cause of the impossible: Malakai himself.
He had just made history.
Never in the dome’s history had a node formation ever defeated a synergy stage evolved. But Malakai had somehow done it.
This was the impossible reality that had just occurred.
And it was this reality the man was currently struggling to comprehend. His thighs had been severed, the blade passing just an inch shy of his crotch. Yet, he didn’t want to believe it.
This child had really done this?
Then he felt the pain. It slammed into him like a tsunami on shore.
The man gritted his teeth, feeling blood rise in his lungs. His body began to tilt… he was falling.
He regained his senses at that moment, and his eyes blazed with killing intent.
“I’ll kill you.”
He flexed his remainingarm, about to yank Malakai down with him, when a green light flashed past his eyes.
The figure felt a disconnect with his arm before the pain hit him.
‘M-my arm…’ his eyes trembled as he turned to his side, only to see his arm split from the elbow. He turned back to Malakai and saw him finishing the swing of his weapon.
The realization dawned. He had severed his arm.
Even as the man fell into the narrow ditch, limbless and blood pooling beneath him, there was only disbelief on his face.
A foot slammed against his head, and his mind froze as he saw that it was Malakai, using him as a launchpad to propel himself out of the hole.
‘I didn’t even use my full power…’ the man realized, gritting his teeth as Malakai’s figure vanished from his sight. Now, he was alone inside the ditch, blood pooling beneath him.
Malakai rolled roughly across the earth, his back slamming against a large rock and stopping his momentum. His breathing was haggard, and he felt like he had just run a marathon.
It was understandable, given the simple fact that he had just escaped death.
His whole body raged in pain, but above all, his wrist…
He glanced at the hand that now hung limply from it. The synergy stage evolved’s grip had shattered the bone.
‘At least he didn’t tear it off,’ Malakai thought, slightly relieved. He could heal broken bones instantly with a large amount of vita, or over time, as he absorbed more from the atmosphere.
‘No more Vitaeon,’ he thought with a darkened expression. Vitaeon was an important resource during battle.
He had used two grade two vials to heal instantly. Unfortunately, he had given the last one to Renlo before coming to Sylvastein.
He needed to find another way to heal.
‘I have to move.’
Malakai forced himself to stand. The lack of bones made his broken hand sway with each movement, sending jolts of pain through him. But Malakai gritted his teeth and shoved it down.
He had no idea what else that synergy stage evolved had up his sleeves. And Malakai had stopped himself from killing him. Ending his life would birth a full grown grade three darkness creature.
Unlike the synergy stage evolver, Malakai wouldn’t even know how he died.
Besides that, he had the other assassins to deal with.
Malakai broke into a sprint, scanning himself as he moved. He gripped one of his scythes with his good hand. His utility belt was in an even worse state than before.
He had used all his vita mines during the battle, and most of his daggers had fallen off, only two remained hanging on the belt. His wires were the only thing fully intact.
Malakai instinctively moved toward where the synergy stage evolved had smacked his other scythe. He couldn’t use his broken arm, but having two weapons had just proven to be better than one.
His eyes suddenly narrowed on the weapon lying in the distance.
‘Good.’ He was glad he didn’t have to waste time searching for it. But as he moved to grab it, a chill washed over him.
Malakai had been in far too many life and death battles to ignore his instincts.
He dove to the side. A glinting blade screamed past where his head had just been. His eyes turned toward it.
‘Fast.’
Malakai’s vita field was already active, the world around him slowed. Regardless, his enhanced perception did little to reduce the attacker’s speed in his eyes.
‘Node formation. Female.’
Malakai’s mind exploded with calculations.
In the next moment, the figure twisted her body, her broadsword descending on him like a guillotine.
Malakai felt the surge of vita still roaring through his body. He shot to the side, barely evading the strike.
The sword had barely touched the ground when Malakai dipped and blasted forward, steps tight, his glowing scythe tearing toward the attacker’s neck.
But a flicker of shock hit him as the attacker let go of her broadsword. Her figure vanished to the side, evading his attack. Then she dropped low, her leg suddenly sweeping out.
Malakai hid his shock and threw his body to the side, barely dodging the sweeping kick.
He landed in a roll, twisting and rising to his feet, only to find a broadsword barreling toward him in a horizontal slash.
Malakai barely brought his scythe staff up to meet it, bracing for impact.
Bam!
‘Strong!’
Malakai found himself off his feet the moment they clashed, sent hurtling backward. But he clenched his fist and spun, skidding to a stop just in front of a broken rock.
He instantly shot his gaze to his attacker. She stood just meters away, staring silently.
As Malakai met her crimson gaze, he could sense amusement behind them. Not just that…
‘Is she…’ he recognized those eyes.
“You surprise me, cousin,” she finally spoke, lifting her massive broadsword with one hand and placing it casually on her shoulder.
“I really didn’t think you’d fucking survive Konos. He’s a synergy stage evolver!” She laughed as she said it, taking off her mask.
Malakai had already confirmed his suspicion the moment she spoke, but seeing her face erased any remaining doubt.
‘The fifth vein…’
