"Kireina…" Hydros muttered, embarrassed. "I'm really grateful you're spending so much time with us… But I sometimes worry though…"
She slowly kneeled, as she grabbed some colorful shells on the beach's shore.
"You worry?"
"Yeah, don't you have your big family? Is it fine to just be with me?"
"Don't worry about that. In my growth, I have developed the ability to create multiple bodies. This isn't a clone but half of my true body."
"Oooh?! I didn't know, well, that's sure convenient! I wish I could do that, hahaha!"
"Yeah."
I walked to her side, sitting over the sand, feeling the wet, cold sand below my buttocks.
"These are some pretty shells… They're all high-quality divine materials too."
"Rainbow Clam Shells and other subspecies, yeah, they wash ashore almost daily. If you leave a big one like this over here… And wait a bit."
She stayed silent, as I saw a little red claw dig out from the sand, until a small, divine hermit crab appeared, slowly walking towards the shell.
"Look, it's a Wise Hermit Crab."
"Another Divine Beast… to think they can be so small as well."
"Yeah, being divine doesn't mean they have to be gigantic! Heheh, look."
Hydros quickly placed several shells around the hermit crab, who pondered which one to choose to replace his old one, which had lost its shiny splendor.
Eventually, it choose the biggest of them all, quickly making their way inside and carrying it on their backs, walking through the beaches.
"Cute right?" she giggled. "When I see this… it makes me feel like life can be simple too, and enjoyable on their own ways… Seeking greatness, power, or whatever… I realized that it wasn't my calling… I knew it would disappoint you back then, or well, I thought it would, so I grew distant because of that too…"
"I see…" I nodded, sighing. "You're right… I've always longed for simple things in life myself… something like the life in this island, it's truly healing me, making me feel more energetic, like I can go against anything. It might be shameless to live a double life or something, but… I like it here."
"Our daughter is also happy, although she doesn't show it," Hydros said, sitting over the beach, and leaning to me, resting her head on my shoulder. "She's happy you're here and taking responsibility for the time lost… Little Triton has never been this happy either. With his grandma around every day is new for him. I really appreciate how you're teaching him how to use his divine powers too."
"Ah, it's nothing," I said with a gentle smile. "As a grandmother this is just my duty… And well, I suppose his other grandma, or his mother weren't that good at it, huh?"
"Hahaha… You got me, I am as good at it as I was back then… I never grew any stronger than a Great Goddess, so here I am," she shrugged. "I taught our daughter everything I knew, she's quite adept at water magic, ice magic, and even illusion magic, though we find little point in using most of our powers when things are so peaceful."
"It makes sense," I nodded. "However, when I see a budding talent like our grandson, I simply can't help but want to teach him something and help his talents blossom… I would never bring him to battle though, but when he grows up, he might want to explore the rest of this world, and he'll face dangerous beasts or even foes. He has to prepare."
"…Right," Hydros nodded. "The little boy does seem to be someone with a knack for adventure…"
"Mama! Papa! Look!"
And as we talked about him, we saw Triton walk through the beach, carrying with him a…
A huge tentacle?!
"T-Triton, what are you carrying?!" Amphitrite quickly panicked.
"What is that? let it go, son!" His father quickly tried to help him out but…
SPLAAASH!
"Uwaah!"
Triton panicked, as something enormous emerged from beneath the sand, a huge white and red colored octopus with two enormous yellow eyes, and a furious-looking face.
It was some sort of divine beast as well, and of a rather high rank, was it sleeping under the sand this entire time?
"Triton!"
"No!"
His parents panicked, as the enraged octopus started shaking its huge head, trying to take Triton away from it.
"Hehehe!"
However, to the surprise of everyone, the boy wasn't crying, he was giggling as he bounced over and over the bubble-shaped head of the octopus.
"GRUUUHHH!"
The octopus let out a furious roar, catching the boy with its tentacles!
"Leave him alone!"
Amphitrite jumped to the battle, swinging her harpoon and infusing it with her divinity.
FLAAASH!
A blinding azure light emerged from it as she fired the weapon at lightning speed, hitting the octopus head without any delay.
BOOOM!
A huge explosion engulfed the octopus, whose head blew up, exploding like a balloon, the harpoon landing all the way on the other side of the beach.
"Oooh… Hehehe!"
Triton looked around confused, but laughed again as he stood back up, grabbing her son with a worried expression.
"What are you thinking on doing?! That was a dangerous monster!" Amphitrite said.
"It was bouncy!" Triton giggled innocently.
"Geez, what am I going to do with you?" His mother sighed.
"Wow, she's sure strong…" Hydros nodded. "But I bet that was a fairly weak monster… right?"
"Not really, that was… a Peak Great God-Rank Divine Beast, a Red-Ringed Infernal Reef Octopus, very poisonous…" I said, as I finished analyzing the corpse. "But it looks like Triton didn't get stung by the poison at all, his body is immensely tough."
"E-Eh?" Hydros panicked. "Was it that powerful?! I should've stepped in… wait, but my daughter did it all…"
"See? They're pretty strong, stronger than their mother already?" I wondered, giggling. "As my daughter, Amphitrite is naturally very powerful, now that we've connected again, she probably gained even more strength from my bloodline."
"Oh wow…" Hydros said. "Oh well, I think they're fine now…"
"Yeah, if it was too dangerous I would've definitely stepped into the battle and-"
SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH!
Oops, spoke too soon it seems.
