The recruitment process itself was quite simple.
Out of the three people who the Medicine God’s Pavilion rejected but paid special attention to, only two passed the scrutiny of character. And thus, only two were offered to join after being saved from the assassins sent after them, the other one was just given another chance to try and escape as far away as he could, now armed with the knowledge he was being targeted and by whom.
There were also 73 people out of 81 aspiring Medicine Dao practitioners that Kwon Qianhong recruited from the contest of knowledge, since the latter also made sure to screen people he approached for character to the best of his abilities.
Then there were around 840 people out of the thousands who were rejected by the Medicine God’s Pavilion and were readying to apply to the Crystal Wood Sect, of whom only 322 agreed to the offer.
Recruiting these people was not hard to conceal as all of them were unaffiliated and were approached individually, not as a group.
Thus their disappearances were not that apparent. Not to mention, even if they were talented, they were just starting-out aspiring practitioners with no experience, and who haven’t received much guidance.
The slightly trickier part was the two Medicine Dao practices.
The smaller clinic which was gradually pushed out by a new one with a mysterious backing, which turned out to be the City Lord Manor – as it was a minor relative of the City Lord who started the new practice – was recruited whole, with 36 people of varying degrees of skills and experience.
It was not hard to recruit them after revealing to them who their opponents were.
But as they were given special attention by the City Lord’s Manor, it was impossible for them to just disappear without causing suspicion, so they were remaining in place, pretending to operate as normal until it was time to depart.
The larger of the clinics, which had the feud of the three families controlling it, had the main family operating the clinic suddenly become vulnerable after their Ancestor and then two successive Family Heads died in a relatively short period of time.
The Ancestor reached the end of his lifespan, and the first of the late Family Heads died in what was ruled an accident during his attempt to breakthrough to the realm their Family’s Ancestor was in, resulting in a Qi Deviation, even if it was quite rare for experienced cultivators in realms above Nine Mortal Realms to make such a grave mistake while cultivating.
The Family Head who took up the position after that died of poisoning, only a couple of years after his succession.
His son was poisoned at the same time, but did not drink the full cup, resulting in him being bedridden.
All of this produced the current situation, where the relatively young and inexperienced grandson of the last deceased Family Head to suddenly be in the position to lead the Family, bypassing his father who was unable to assume the role.
This was a prime opportunity for the two subordinate families to try and take control of the clinic.
The only problem for them was that the senior staff and experienced healers of the clinic were still loyal to the main family.
Including the best three healers in the clinic who held up its reputation and prestige, who were all the main family’s Elders, cousins to the previous Family Head.
Thus, for Wu Long it was a simple matter of first healing the previous Family Head’s son, or rather, helping Gong Liwei to do so.
And then helping the young Family Head who now had a Family Ancestor to rely on, to retain control of the clinic through Old Yen and Nie Guanting working in the background.
The last part was the easiest. To defend the main family from an inevitable outright attack of the two lower families.
The Family Ancestors of these minor noble families were typically in 5th or 6th level Essence Gathering Realm, and their Family Heads were usually in 1st to 3rd level, which meant he could leave the two family Heads to Nie Xiwang to handle, while he crushed the two Family Ancestors.
A lot of the newer lower-level personnel of the clinic had to be trimmed since they were brought in by the two families in preparation to try and wrestle away the control of the practice.
But the biggest allure of this large clinic was its experienced senior staff and healers, as well as their own private library of Medicine Dao knowledge, so Wu Long didn’t care about the parts of the clinic that had to be cut off.
He still gained 25 top-tier – in the standards of the Feilin Continent – Medicine Dao practitioners, as well as 147 average ones, along with around 200 staff.
As soon as they were done with that, both clinics moved out immediately.
The larger of the clinics was not only kept in check by almost the entire city, but also by the Medicine God’s Pavilion, since Wu Long was fairly certain it was the latter who viewed this Medicine Dao practice as problematic in the long run at the rate it was growing over the recent decades, and thus induced this crisis from the shadows in order to stifle its growth.
As such, just like the smaller clinic, this one had to openly leave the continent.
But with Ci Han, one of the very few Essence Harmonization Realm practitioners around in these remote parts of the Land of 10,000 Dynasties, and the only one of this continent, accompanying them, it was hard for anyone to prevent either of the clinics from boarding a beast of burden going out of the Feilin Continent.
And once a few Worlds away, they were able to covertly, and most importantly, plausibly, disappear without a trace.
This was, of course, not everything that Wu Long could take from the Feilin Continent, but it was enough for the moment, and would help in establishing a foundation to build upon, as well as solve the immediate need for healers.
Wu Long could not pass through his link with Fen Baihu to return to the Soft Meadow Continent in an instant like others, since he was the connecting point himself, and thus had to make the same trip back alone.
All of this, including the recruitment and the road back took a couple of weeks, which allowed the Eternal Duality Valley to make a massive amount of progress in their preparations for the Great Wilderness while Wu Long was away.
There were around a 100 healers who could participate in the expedition almost right away, of course, needing a week or two to adjust to the rhythm of life within the Eternal Duality Valley which was quite different on the outside, as well as readjust from the mindset of a peaceful civilian Medicine Dao practitioners into those who could heal on the battlefield.
The rest of the training and adjustment, of course, would be best to do in live practice in the Great Wilderness.
The remainder of the experienced Medicine Dao practitioners were more suited to continue their civilian practice, with little prospect of being useful on the battlefield.
And of course, those who were recruited as prospective talent began their training right away.
