Code Zulu Alpha: Nerd in the Apocalypse!
Chapter 1407: Locked Home - Wanna fight me again? As soon as we went into the doors to the Radio Station, the smell of coffee wafted our noses—and I would’ve railed Rin on the spot since she came in with a Cuppa Joe and handed it to me. But yeah, looking at everyone else present, they definitely had gone for an all-nighter and hadn’t had a proper rest since.
But yeah, aside from the thousands of bodies mixed with dismembered parts everyone else had been hauling from the Manila Bay, a mix of dead sea creatures—mostly fish—were also picked up and taken apart.
And upon their closer inspection, the ones that looked normal died from the onslaught of sonar pings while the ones that looked off died from ingesting human chunks, mistaking them for fish food.
[It just looked really… eugh… the flesh is a dead giveaway, pun intended, mind you— but yeah, it’s quite easy to know tainted meat from the edible ones.]
"Another silver lining, huh?"
[I guess you can say that. Wouldn’t it be nicer if they just turned animals super buff, too? Our place’s meat servings had gone a little~ low and we’ve been putting meat alternatives for everyone else not to notice.]
"Don’t you have a fish farm— right… Some of ours got affected too."
[Aside from that— I mean, we do have chickens that can grow in 30-45 days but it’s just different from the native one and I’m one for beef or even a water buffalo. We’ve been taking good care of the ones you sent us but man~ they do grow a lot slower.]
"The price we have to pay, for sure."
[Hey, kid— Drying all of them, I think that’s gonna be a negative. What looks to me, like it’d be better to dig up more pits to bury them—after running them through a shredder, of course. Either that or we cut them up just enough so that those fucking Stitchers would just be adding on dead-weight.]"You just had to, huh?"
[I’m sleepy as fuck, you punk! That makes it two for two!]
"Heh. I was smiling when I said it, no worries. But yeah, at the rate you guys are going, you’d probably be done in a week. Is it possible to clear a path?"
[Of course, but why? Ah, you have to send a few people to that place, right?]
"And a few other things we agreed on beforehand?"
[What do you mean by "we"? You’re the one in complete control of that operation.]
"You know the Rivas Family, for one."
[From the other side of the police vehicle! Look, I got a ton of shit to hand on my end, I don’t want to juggle another group to replace whatever’s left of my free time!]
"Chill, I’m not asking you to—but do know we’re in kind of the same boat."
[Same boat?! Hah! Kid, I kid you not—three for three, heh—you have a bigger plate than I do and I don’t know how you do it. Just know letting you go home wasn’t even a favor. I felt it’s a necessity for ya.]
"What if I’m just better at delegating and time management?"
[Fuck off! If you’re just gonna waste our time and avoid compliments, I’d rather go back to my menial work as Mayor.]
"That was a compliment? Sure, I’ll take it, I guess… Pfft— But anyway, Rin and Vera will collaborate with you to finish that task and our allies will definitely send more people to relieve the ones who’ve been there for hours. Some sexually, some not… mostly not."
[If you’re gonna send sex workers, better send more contraceptives our way.]
"Or better sex education classes?"
[Like what?]
"Anal, for one. I doubt anyone got pregnant from that unless from excessive drippage."
[I… I didn’t even think you could use those words that way… Well, IUDs and vasectomies are a thing but some people don’t just give a fuck, you know?]
"Aaaand~ we’re back to better sex education classes. We’re bound to repopulate but I’d be happy with our current numbers if all of them haven’t learned a single thing from all this."
[I agree. In a way, we who survived could dictate what the younger generations are supposed to learn moving forward.]
"I’d love to use the word guide instead of dictate."
[Then some of them would think it’s optional.]
"It’s still human nature."
[What we’re doing is nurture.]
"Hmm… fair. Both could exist, can we at least agree on that? People are bound to stray or look for another path but it’s also important to guide them to where it’d be best for everyone."
[Which is also on our terms. We’re not the best of the best but we’ve got pretty common sense. I think we should start with that.]
"I guess we’ll still have different points of view despite all this—which is still beautiful, mind you."
[Hmm. That, I agree with.]
"And hearing that, we’ll still have things we agree on. Human nature, eh?"
[This talk is making me sleepy…]
"What happened to you?"
[Hah?]
"I’m spruce as fuck—"
[Fuck off, you got a good night’s— I mean a good day’s sleep while everyone—]
"Hey! You told me to go back home and I took it! Don’t go complaining since I also offered to stay and told me to fuck off."
[I can’t complain now?]
"You can, of course, but if it’s a stupid complaint I’ll shut you down."
[Heh. Fair.]
"Fair. So, what now?"
[You sit back on your ass for a bit and do more important shit.]
"That’s more important shit. I need a path in a few days for our ship."
[Can’t you fly them?]
"And the rest of the cargo? Besides, I don’t wanna waste fuel for our helicopters that much. Heck, if we can do it on the road we would."
[Can’t you?]
"We need to be the same number when we reach our destination and I’d want no bulletholes in my truck."
[That’s part of the game.]
"Fuck it. I’m well-rested and have more sense than you now, I’m— we’re coming back!"
[Hah? Why?!]
"Because I said so! I’m the relief for ya! Sleep goddammit!"

But before I could even relish on me asserting dominance, I just found out that the Old Man, Oscar, had snuck out with his own team and leading the group in the North Harbor. At the same time, Johnny did almost the same thing and brought his own troops and was just waiting for Iskoh to clock out so he can take over.
And furthermore, Matthew brought Lois, Olivia, and a few others with him to the LRT Stations just so that I’d be forced to hold down the fort and have no one else to delegate to.
While it was true that Ferdinand was ever-present in the DDR Camp and Damian in Woodlands, someone needs to take care of the place as a whole and I can’t just leave anyone else to take care of this place who was free. Marisha and even Micah could work for a bit but they had their own shit to take care of while I had the most time on my hands.
It was already nearing sunset and even if we drove over there, it’d be all moot since someone else could do an all-nighter for Iskoh and there were people there to relieve them, not sexually unless specifically requested, but yeah, it’s pretty much doing the same thing over and over but in this place, I’d be with my people I’d rarely spent time to be with.
So yeah, I spent about three days inside my compound—while definitely trying to sneak away and getting caught because I wouldn’t part with my Raptor—but the amount of random shit I’ve done, mostly making bullets, was fucking astronomical.
There was a moment there when I thought I would also achieve a breakthrough but after three more attempts in those three days, Quinn somehow looked like she achieved whatever she was trying to achieve from the first one.
And again, not trying to snoop in or anything but aside from that one time she asked to be left alone so she could talk to Marisha, she seemed to be like the good ol’ crazy Quinn we all knew and loved.
But right as another day passed, another breakthrough was achieved and it wasn’t from me but from Alexander.
The dude was finally able to hold a normal conversation without trying to kill or harm everyone in sight, and it was all thanks to Marisha.
In addition, as Marisha managed to complete the puzzle from the puzzle pieces she had been uncovering one by one from inside his head, she managed to get a profile of who had done such a thing and figured out a way to resolve it.
And right now, I was face-to-face with a guy whom I last saw awake when he shot and injured his supposed comrades who I also consider to be my comrades as well—and the dude looked like he couldn’t hurt a fucking fly.
"’Sup?" I started with my usual greeting.
"You— I remember, I— Ugh… Fuck… Where— Where’s—"
Marisha cut in from the back, "I’m right over here, Alexander. You recognize the man in front of you?"
"Y-Yeah… He, uhh… He umm— He hit— no, helped me."
Marisha asked, "Helped you how?"
"He… He knocked me out so I could stop… So I could stop hurting my comrades."
"And?"
"Ah—" he then had a realization, "I guess I should say, umm— Thank you?"
I chuckled, "I think we’re getting nowhere with this. I wanna know you a little more personally."
"P-Personally?"
"Yeah. Wanna fight me again?"
