Chapter 1324: Landing

Chapter 1324: Landing

The area around the crash site changed greatly in just under a week.

An improvised workshop had grown around the crashed ship, attended by technicians who used whatever they could get their hands on to repair the fried vessel.

Other human ships had landed on the grey sand, creating a small parking spot right outside the cluster of metal tents and portable habitations the Nognes forces had built to set up camp.

A few bigger buildings stood farther away from the camp, mostly serving as warehouses for brittle, precious equipment and valuable materials. The Nognes forces had also placed anything too heavy there, preparing for something that still sounded unbelievable.

The purple-red storm still raged in the distance, tainting the horizon with a bright blemish that didn’t match the planet’s grey sky. However, that majestic, unnatural calamity couldn’t claim anyone’s attention that day.

The human teams had left their habitations and tasks to gather on the grey sand. The same went for Wayne and Deni. Only Zalpa remained on the other side of the camp, surrounded by fuming buckets while sitting next to the still-sleeping Liiza. However, her glowing eyes were on the sky, just like everyone else.

A small, black dot appeared in the sky and expanded by the second, growing bigger and bigger until it revealed its huge features. A vast metal surface was slowly descending toward the ground, and a blue light shone at its center.

The blue light’s features eventually became visible as well. It was no artificial illumination. A person stood under that metal surface, supporting it with his raised arms.

Even the metal surface wasn’t a mere platform. A dark dome grew from its other side, isolating its structures and equipment, protecting them with the help of a mana barrier.

A few soldiers on the ground knew more than others, but that didn’t make the scene any less shocking. They had worked overtime in the past week to remove anything heavy that could be moved out of the outpost, significantly reducing its overall weight.

Moreover, the outpost’s specifics deepened that feature. Structures meant for space were often resilient but lightweight to aid the takeoff, and the Nognes forces had also assembled those required by the trip quickly.

Yet, the scene remained stunning.

Obviously, the figure under the descending outpost was none other than Khan, who made full use of his cells’ power to support that vast structure, aiding its descent.

Of course, the task featured far more than sheer physical strength. Khan’s aura had to remove the air to prevent the outpost from facing friction force that it couldn’t endure.

Also, Khan had to adjust his steps in the sky to prevent a catastrophe. His body was firmer than the outpost and mana barrier combined, so exerting too much strength risked making him pierce that structure.

Nevertheless, the physical struggle remained the biggest challenge. As strong as Khan was and despite all the mana he sent toward his cells, the effort was pushing him to his limits, covering him in sweat and making his muscles and veins bulge to no end.

That was mostly due to the task’s specifics. A simple outpost was less than a grain of sand in Khan’s view. He could destroy it with a mere thought.

Yet, making such a vast structure land safely from orbit required more effort, focus, and care. It was a constant struggle against multiple factors, forcing Khan to adjust and apply continuous strength without messing up even once.

Truth be told, the effort could sound superfluous and had various drawbacks. The outpost was already meant to host Liiza’s labor, which could easily happen in space, especially now that technology didn’t cry in fear whenever Khan was around.

Liiza could also be safely moved now, and bringing her to the outpost involved far fewer challenges than doing the opposite. The number of trips Khan’s forces had to make to enable that task was uncountable, and most of the equipment would be stuck on the planet forever afterward.

Also, the planet didn’t just stay still. Khan had been relatively lucky when the two alien scouts appeared since the celestial body had been orbiting in his direction.

Still, that was bound to change soon and could delay the trip to the Nak’s home world by the time Khan was ready to depart again.

Nevertheless, no matter how troublesome it was, bringing everything to the barren grey planet had its fair share of advantages, and their nature made the decision a no-brainer for Khan.

A planet was undeniably safer than an outpost floating in space. Many possible complications didn’t exist when the breathable atmosphere wasn’t at risk of vanishing due to technical reasons.

Moreover, Khan’s special ship needed fixing, and an actual planet would eliminate the need for specialized equipment and vessels. His forces only had to bring everything there to start working.

Ultimately, the Scarlet Eyes weren’t a distant threat anymore. They weren’t a myth that Khan didn’t know how to describe without sounding mental. They had just knocked at his doorsteps, and nothing told him they couldn’t do it again.

Wayne could act as a Scarlet Eyes detector, but that wouldn’t fix the danger they posed. Khan had grown far stronger after the last battle, but fighting in space would increase the risks for Liiza and the baby, and he couldn’t allow it.

There was also another reason, but Khan planned not to deal with it until it was absolutely necessary.

It took a while and a lot of sweat and grunts, but Khan eventually got close enough to the sandy ground to drop the outpost and disappear from its bottom.

The outpost crossed the few meters separating it from the grey desert before violently crashing into it, lifting clouds and sand everywhere. The ground also shook, but the mana barrier around the structure remained stable, keeping everything inside safe.

The violent landing and the waves of sand it generated kept the crowd glued to the scene, but someone eventually noticed that a blue light had appeared among them.

"That was heavier than I thought," Khan admitted, his sweaty, still-bulging arms crossed before his chest while he stood among his soldiers. "Look, I told Garret I’ll try to push it back to orbit afterward, but can I go back on it? Let’s just pretend building a checkpoint here was the plan all along."

The soldiers were too stunned to reply. The scene hadn’t only been incredible. Khan’s sudden appearance among them delivered a final blow to their ability to speak.

Of course, that didn’t apply to all the people on the scene.

"I’ll push it back to orbit!" Wayne claimed, also crossing his arms to imitate Khan. "If Khan is too tired, I’ll do it!"

"I’m sure you can," Deni commented, gently smiling while patting Wayne’s shoulder.

"Wayne, I have a different job for you," Khan announced, running his glowing gaze over his soldiers. "Get the outpost set up. I’ll bring my wife inside soon enough."

A series of "My Prince!" resounded in the area as the soldiers dispersed, hurrying toward the just-landed dome or the warehouses to retrieve necessary equipment. Meanwhile, Wayne’s expression lit up, and he smiled from ear to ear as soon as he heard that Khan had a job for him.

"[We’ll have visitors soon enough]," Khan explained once all the soldiers left, switching to the Niqols language while nodding at Deni. "[Niqols visitors. I’ll be with Liiza most of the time, probably until she gives birth, so I’ll leave the perimeter to you]."

"[Leave it to me, brother]!" Wayne laughed. "[I won’t let anyone disturb you, no matter how many people I have to kill]."

Wayne suddenly grew confused, tilting his head in thought before expressing his doubts. "[Although I’m not sure I want to kill anyone, especially Niqols]."

"[I don’t want you to kill anyone]," Khan reassured. "[Let them land and settle here. If they try to barge in forcefully, make things go bad. Can you do that]?"

Wayne regained his bright, excited smile, but Khan found it quite concerning. He wasn’t sure Wayne had understood the assignment, so he looked at Deni, and the Niqols nodded back at him, silently promising to keep him in check.
