Chapter 1239: Goth

Korosim didn’t respond to Neresa’s words. Although he remained silent, even he couldn’t help but think the words true.

He landed on a tree and blasted forward once more, evading the slash that threatened to cleave him into two.

They had been luring the child god and his subordinate for a few moments already, and it didn’t seem as though he had suspected anything. They might actually be able to kill a god. Or in this case, get one killed.

Despite this fact, Korosim kept a level head. They couldn’t let their guards down.

A god was only all powerful in their world. Outside it, they were practically the same as any other, except for the incredible boost to their will given by their worlds. What it meant was simple enough: they could be killed, if done right.

Korosim narrowed his eyes at the front. The beacon was getting closer.

’Get ready to teleport. We’re almost there.’ He said. Neresa turned to look at the approaching beacon and gave a firm nod.

They both evaded multiple lethal attacks from the child god and his subordinate, making sure not to venture too far and allowing them to continue the chase.

And after a few moments, Korosim’s eyes narrowed. ’We’re here.’

His gaze landed on the figure of a gothic woman. She alone stood in front of the blinding beacon, her cold, lifeless gaze already locked onto them.

’Perfect.’ Korosim felt a surge of excitement roaring through his body.

Iyress the Drifted One was Somnera’s god, from the star Vaelthrys.

But what made Korosim happy was the fact that she was considered one of the most likely to win the Virelenna. A terrifying contender.

’Now!’ he screamed to Neresa telepathically, and almost immediately, both of them vanished as they were about to reach the beacon, crossing a distance they had never crossed since the chase began.

They appeared more than 3km away from the location, their eyes turning towards where they had come from.

“This should be enough distance,” Korosim said with narrowed eyes.

They had already tested the range of a god’s perception in this foggy world using the high marshal before setting off. He had been able to peer through 800 meters.

’The child god should be lower than that… but her…’ They expected Atticus’s range to be even lower, but what they were worried about was the god of Somnera, Iyress.

Korosim suddenly made hand signs in the air, and in the next moment, a small screen made from mana formed in front of him, showing live footage of the location they had just left.

The child god and his subordinate stood across from Iyress.

“There’s no way he’ll be able to survive this,” Neresa said confidently. Korosim nodded. Iyress was a figure that even the high marshal was wary of.

He wasn’t sure if he would be able to win if they fought. They couldn’t imagine the child god lasting past a few exchanges.

“We should focus on gaining valuable intel from their battle, no matter how brief,” Korosim said. The high marshal could use that intel to prepare for his battle with her.

Korosim’s eyes glinted. “It’s starting.”

Through the screen, the world had begun to turn deep purple. Iyress gazed at Atticus with a small smile.

She appeared like a woman far too old but young, barely twenties in appearance. Her eyes were lifeless, dead. And a purple aura continually leaked out from her, drenching the space.

She had sent her subordinates away and had chosen to defend their beacon all alone. It only went to show how confident she was.

“Child.” Her voice sounded like countless dead were speaking on top of each other.

“You’re carrying so much emotion in you. So much hate. It’s sad.” Her dead eyes were filled with pity.

She wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. “You need help,” she said, as more aura left her form. “Through death, you will feel nothing. I will free you. I will help you.”

Iyress raised her hand, and her aura blasted outward in a spiral of purple waves. The earth began to tremble. Hands, heads, legs burst out from the ground, followed by whole bodies.

An army of the dead rose from the earth, each with lifeless eyes, bodies rotten, some nothing more than bones. A purple aura enveloped them, shooting their power to unimaginable heights.

“My children,” Iyress said, tears spilling from her eyes. “We will be adding one more to our family today. A lost soul. He needs help, and we shall free him. Get him.”

The army of the dead surged forward. They moved like purple missiles tearing towards Atticus and Aric, aiming to rip and tear.

Both of them exploded into motion. Atticus’s katana flashed rapidly, silver streaks filling the space as he cut down multiple at impossible speed.

Aric blasted into the army of the dead, multiple swords spinning perpetually around him, decimating the army at fast speed.

“My child, why do you resist?” Iyress said, raising her hand. “I’m just trying to free you.” Her purple aura thickened, and the ground below her trembled with renewed intensity.

Multiple massive arms burst out, followed by the figures of gigantic masses of rotten flesh emerging from the ground.

They looked like countless corpses had been merged together to form them. They let out guttural roars that shook the space before rocketing towards Atticus and Aric at supersonic speed.

They clashed in collisions that shook the earth.

Korosim, who watched everything silently, couldn’t help but narrow his eyes.

“He’s… weaker than I expected,” he said with a frown.

“Unlike you, this is exactly what I expected,” Neresa said with a small smile. But Korosim couldn’t help but feel baffled.

With the new massive warriors that Iyress had just unleashed, Atticus was subtly getting pushed back. It was odd.

’He had never been a threat to the high marshal,’ he thought. If this was all he had in him, then Atticus had probably never been a threat to any god. ’He’s the weakest here,’ Korosim thought.

But his frown only deepened. ’What about his will?’ Right now, a red glow surrounded Atticus, but Korosim couldn’t notice any burning effect.

’He couldn’t be mistaken.’ He refused to believe the high marshal had been wrong. So what was going on?

His eyes suddenly glinted. “She’s moving.”

Neresa also focused. Iyress was finally joining the fight.
