Chapter 1856 - 1856: New Alliance in the Making

Herman sat behind a table as he waited for an answer from his guests. Following his Advisor’s suggestion, Herman immediately put it into motion. He could not bear it anymore because of how the Emperor treated him. He understood why Tang Shaoyang acted that way, but it didn’t mean he could tolerate it.

What his Advisor told him was right. He and his nation alone might not be able to contend with the Tang Empire, but if he worked together with the big factions, then they might be able to stand equally against the Tang Empire. He agreed with Frans. The alliance was not to fight the Tang Empire, but it was formed so the Tang Empire acted arbitrarily. He did not want to live under the Tang Empire’s mercy, no more of that.

Herman invited all big factions except for The Duchy of Michalina which was known that they had become The Tang Empire’s vassal. He knew Olympus and The Africa Nation were close to The Tang Empire, but he invited them anyway. Just like The United Sovereign, The Olympus and The Africa Nation also survived under The Tang Empire’s mercy.

The Kingdom of Sand’s King, Igmar, carefully thought of the proposal. He still felt bitter from the last meeting with how easily The Whitney Kingdom, The Kingdom of Napoles, and The North Federation abandoned him. He swallowed his pride and came for the invitation.

Igmar did not regret coming to the invitation because he found out that The United Sovereign had a fallout with The Tang Empire. He was happy that Herman got the taste of what he experienced, getting abandoned. Despite his delight with the news, he had to agree with The United Sovereign that they could not contend with The Tang Empire unless they worked together.

As Herman said, it would be just a matter of time before they would have more God Ranks combined than The Tang Empire. When that happened, The Tang Empire would not be able to act arbitrarily like meddling in his takeover of the Africa Nation back then.

“Are you proposing to fight them just like what the World Union did?” The Kingdom of Napoles’ King questioned Herman. He recalled what happened to The Pantheon which disappeared overnight because they offended The Tang Empire. Even until now, no one knew what Tang Shaoyang did, and that mystery invoked fear in many people.

Herman shook his head, “No. We formed the new alliance not to fight the Tang Empire, but to contend with them. We will not attack them, but we will work together if The Tang Empire suddenly attacks us. It’s a measure to keep The Tang Empire in check. As you know, It’s almost impossible for us to catch up with them unless we work together. I don’t want to live under The Tang Empire’s mercy for the rest of my life hence I propose the idea.”

“What about the medium and the small faction? Is it an alliance only for the big faction?” Collin Morton of the North Federation asked.

Collin Morton did not like the idea even though it made sense. The alliance would limit the expansion of his federation. Based on his experience from the first-dimensional tower, it would take time before he could think of an expedition to the other worlds. Meaning the federation had to focus its expansion on Earth. The alliance would limit the expansion, and he knew he could not touch The Tang Empire and its vassals.

“We will embrace those who want to join the alliance, but we will not force those who don’t want to join our alliance. However, we need to be in one voice before we can extend the alliance to the smaller factions.” Herman responded solemnly.

The alliance will work if The North Federation, The Whitney Kingdom, and The Mecaya Kingdom agree to join him. They were the big four after The Tang Empire, and the smaller factions were inclined to join if those four names were on the list.

“I agree with your opinion, Sir Herman. However, I don’t think this is the right time to form an alliance to contend with the Tang Empire. We need the Tang Empire’s force if we want to continue exploring the tower peacefully. Unless you want to be the three worlds’ servants, working our people for them instead of focusing on our growth,” Victor Brent Whitney agreed with the sentiment, but it didn’t mean he would do it right now.

If he had to choose between allying with The Tang Empire or the three worlds, he would choose the former. The Tang Empire was so far being reasonable, never demanding something ridiculous. It was his pride and his kingdom’s dignity that did not allow him to join the Earth Alliance as the Tang Empire’s subordinate.

He did not mean to offend the empire, and he would rather his kingdom do its own things, and the Tang Empire did its own things. Just like when The World Union/ World Government tried to rally the world to fight The Tang Empire. The Whitney Kingdom did not join and focused on his own things. He preferred this rather than fighting a losing fight.

“Especially when a fool spilled everything about The Earth Alliance’s main force to the three worlds. Now they know that only the Tang Empire had the God Ranks. Don’t expect them to treat us equally after this,” As Victor said that, his eyes locked on Igmar.

He knew Igmar was trying to use the three worlds for personal vengeance, but it was a foolish thing to do, ‘Why don’t The Emperor get rid of these people just like he got rid of The Pantheon.’ Deep inside, Victor hoped that the Tang Empire would wipe out the Kingdom of Sand’s high-ranking people. That was enough to make a faction crumble.

Herman furrowed his brow as he overlooked this problem. He hated to admit it, but Victor was right. The Earth Alliance was under the Tang Empire’s protection, and the Earth Alliance lost its protector. This was why Herman hated to make a decision when he was angry.

The sound of the chair screeching resounded in the room, and everyone looked toward the noise. Vaso Galliades of Olympus stood up, “The Olympus will not join your alliance.”

Herman was not surprised that The Olympus pulled off from the alliance, in fact, he expected this to happen, “Why? Are you going to be The Tang Empire’s subordinates for the rest of your life?”

Vaso Galliades shrugged, “We are not their subordinate, and we never received an order from them. More importantly, I don’t see a reason for us to contend with them. The Tang Empire doesn’t show a sign that they want to conquer the world either. It has been more than a year, and they have grown even more powerful, but the Tang Empire never showed any aggression to any factions. They could easily take the smaller factions’ territory, but they don’t. So yeah, I don’t see the need to form an alliance to contend with the Tang Empire.”

“The Tang Empire might not attack you right now, but are you confident they will not change their mind in the future?” Herman used to have the same thoughts as Vaso Galliades, but the fear in his heart kept growing as he saw no sign of the Tang Empire slowing down.

Vaso Galliades shook his head, “I don’t want to risk my people’s safety with something that hasn’t happened yet, Sir Herman. Unless you guys keep aggravating The Tang Empire, then it might happen, the Second World War. For example, forming an alliance to contend with the Tang Empire… They might change their mind if they deem this alliance as a threat to the Tang Empire’s security.”

“On another note, The Tang Empire could easily take over the majority of territories in the world after they won against The World Government. But what happened? They left the conquered territory. They left after they deemed the threat to their empire had been vanquished.”

“The current Tang Empire thinks there’s no reason for them to conquer the world, but they will conquer the world if you give them the reason, and I don’t want to be part of that reason, Sir Herman,” Vaso Galliades turned around and started to walk to the exit with his trusted people.

“This is your only chance to join our alliance, Vaso. If you leave the room right now, then The Olympus can never join the alliance,” Herman warned.

Vaso shook his head at the obvious threat and waved his hand without turning back.

The President of the Africa Nation, Gaius Barbarossa, thought of joining this alliance initially. He agreed with Herman’s opinion that living under someone else’s mercy was dreadful. Knowing someone else could destroy his nation’s anytime was awful. However, Vaso Galliades reminded him that the Tang Empire was not a cruel force that would destroy a faction on a whim or for slight offense.

Gaius stood up from the chair as well, “I have to agree with The Olympus. I don’t want to give the Tang Empire a reason to take over the world. The Africa Nation is not joining the alliance.”

Herman tried to calm himself down and waited for the other faction’s response.

“I don’t think you should expect us to make such a big decision right away, Sir Herman. This is a big decision that we must think about and discuss carefully. You can’t force us to make the decision on the spot, especially when we don’t see any immediate benefit from forming this alliance. You are promising a future that has not happened yet while wanting us to take a risk to face the Tang Empire’s wrath.”

King Quintana of the Mecaya Kingdom voiced his opinion. He did not like how Herman threatened their potential ally. He felt like the threat to The Olympus was unnecessary, in fact, they should persuade The Olympus instead of threatening them. Herman’s proposal was half-convincing, but not convincing enough to draw The Tang Empire’s wrath.

“If you can guarantee protection from the Tang Empire in this dimensional tower, I don’t mind joining the alliance. The purpose of the alliance is a precaution for the future that we are afraid might happen, not to fight the Tang Empire. If you can guarantee the alliance can keep an amicable relationship with The Tang Empire, there’s no reason for The Africa Nation and The Olympus not to join the alliance. I will agree to form the alliance if you can guarantee it.”

Not just King Quintana, everyone that remained in the room looked toward Herman. Everyone in the room was afraid of the Tang Empire and also the unknown future where the Tang Empire might turn toward them. However, the fear of the current Tang Empire was bigger than the future that had not happened yet.

Herman Bonivido realized that he presented a half-baked plan and that was not enough to convince them all to form the alliance in the chance of offending the Tang Empire.

He stood up, “Thank you for your suggestion, Sir Quintana. I agree with you, and I will speak to The Emperor to see his reaction. We will start from that.”

He bowed slightly to everyone who remained in the room, “Thank you for sparing your time for my invitation. We will hold the alliance and discuss it again after I speak to The Emperor.”
