A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm
Chapter 1202: Tailing in Secret"Master, do you think that the Gold Devouring Immortal they're referring to is Jin Tong?" Weeping Soul asked.
"What was that? Did I hear Boss's name?" Xiaobai immediately yelled from within the Flower Branch domain upon hearing this.
"It's definitely possible. Jin Tong is a very smart girl, so there's a chance that she was able to escape from the Nine Origins Temple," Han Li mused.
However, if Jin Tong were nearby, then why was he unable to sense her at all through their spiritual connection?
It then occurred to him that now that Jin Tong had reached the Great Encompassment Stage, perhaps her soul power had been elevated to the point that it had refined the spiritual mark that he had planted in her body.
"Master, those people are leaving," Weeping Soul suddenly said, and sure enough, Han Li turned to discover the six figures filing out of their booth.
"Let's follow them," Han Li said as he rose to his feet.
The auction hadn't even reached the halfway mark yet, so there were definitely still many more treasures to come, but a higher priority had arisen.
Only after the six of them were far away did Han Li and Weeping Soul leave their booth to trail along after them.
After emerging from the Sun Moon Pavilion, the six figures flew away into the distance, while Han Li and Weeping Soul continued to follow from afar.Upon Xiaobai's insistence, Han Li relented and released him from the Flower Branch domain, and before long, the six figures arrived on the border of Gilded City, where they drew to a temporary halt.
This place was very far away from the heart of the city, and most of the residents in this area were mortals and low-grade cultivators.
One of the cloaked figures stepped forward, then flipped their hand over to produce a blue crystal ball, within which was a swirling vortex of blue light.
Right at this moment, a faint glimmer of golden light flashed through the vortex, and the figure declared, "He's right here!"
It was Lan Yan's voice.
"We've finally managed to track him down!" the petite figure said in an exultant manner, then swept a sleeve through the air to release a flurry of silver array flags that vanished into the nearby space.
The space up ahead shuddered slightly, and a transparent, hemispherical light barrier appeared, encompassing a large area within it.
There were countless silver patterns on the light barrier, forming what appeared to have been an extremely profound restriction.
The light barrier only appeared for an instant before fading away, so it didn't attract any attention.
"There's no way that Gold Devouring Immortal will be able to get away now!" another cloaked figure chuckled.
"Cut the chit-chat!" the petite figure harrumphed coldly as she flew forward and abruptly vanished into thin air, leaving only a patch of rippling space behind her.
Her five companions quickly followed suit, and only after all six of them had disappeared did Han Li's trio appear nearby.
The three of them were enshrouded in a layer of azure light that resembled an azure cloak, which completely concealed their auras.
Han Li pointed a finger forward, releasing a beam of golden light that vanished into the space up ahead, and rays of silver light instantly appeared before him, forming a series of runes to keep the beam of golden light at bay.
The two were in opposition for a moment before both faded away.
"This is a very powerful spatial restriction. It won't be difficult to break it, but I don't think I'll be able to do so without being detected," Han Li said with slightly furrowed brows.
"If it's a spatial restriction, then leave it to me. Get in my stomach for now," Xiaobai said with a smile as he took on his Pixiu form, then devoured Han Li and Weeping Soul whole before chanting an incantation to conjure up a layer of rippling white light over his own body.
Cloaked within the layer of white light, Xiaobai's body slowly fused into the surrounding space, transforming into a white shadow that drifted forward through the air.
A series of white runes instantly appeared in the space up ahead to halt him in his tracks, but he was able to pass through them without any trouble, and once the white shadow had crossed over to the other side, it quickly reformed into Xiaobai's body.
From there, he opened his mouth to release Han Li and Weeping Soul, the former of which turned to him with a surprised expression as he exclaimed, "I didn't know you possessed the ability to bypass spatial restrictions."
"Us Ink-Eyed Pixiu's have innate spaces in our bodies, so our bloodline is imbued with some spatial power," Xiaobai explained in a smug manner as he reverted back to his human form.
Han Li nodded in response, then cast his gaze forward, only to discover that the six cloaked figures were nowhere to be seen.
"Master, they've concealed themselves and are currently over there. We've been able to remain hidden from them thanks to Xiaobai's Heaven Moving Talisman, but we could still be discovered if we get too close," Weeping Soul said as she pointed a finger in a certain direction.
Han Li activated his Infernal Devilish Eyes, and he immediately spotted the six figures as well, all of whom were converging around a small courtyard on a secluded street up ahead.
"Let's go," Han Li said, and the three of them immediately set off again.
Han Li had concealed their auras, while Weeping Soul was using a secret technique to suppress their soul auras, and only then did they approach the courtyard.
However, before they had a chance to close in, a resounding boom rang out within the courtyard.
A burst of radiant, golden light erupted in all directions, forming a vortex of golden light that proliferated outward in all directions to raze the entire courtyard to the ground.
Han Li's trio immediately stopped in their tracks before ducking behind a large tree for cover.
From there, Han Li watched as the six cloaked figures flew out into the surrounding area to form an encirclement around what was once the courtyard.
As the golden light continued to spread outward, Han Li suddenly detected a familiar aura within it, and he murmured to himself, "It's him, not Jin Tong..."
"Who is it, Master?" Xiaobai asked in a puzzled manner, and as soon as his voice trailed off, the smoke settled to reveal a golden-robed young man.
It was none other than the Great Encompassment Stage Gold Devouring Immortal, Qu Lin.
"You sure are persistent, I'll give you that," Qu Lin sighed in an exasperated manner.
"There's no need for violence, Fellow Daoist. We really are only here to invite you to attend the Bodhi Banquet. Just return with us to the Heavenly Court, and you'll see that we're telling the truth."
Han Li turned to discover that it was a black-robed woman who had spoken, and Weeping Soul's brows furrowed slightly in befuddlement upon hearing this.
"They're from the Heavenly Court? Weren't they supposed to be cultivators of the Nine Origins Temple?"
Han Li was also very perplexed.
"You think I'll fall for that again? Placing my trust in the Heavenly Court is how I ended up in the Eon Pagoda!" Qu Lin scoffed.
"There must've been some misunderstanding in the past," the black-robed woman said in an emotionless manner.
"Don't treat me like an idiot! I want nothing to do with any of you, so you can all go now," Qu Lin harrumphed coldly.
"Fine! We tried to be civilized, but you clearly insist on forcing our hand," the black-robed woman replied in a cold voice, then swept a sleeve through the air to release a cloud of crimson mist above Qu Lin.
At the same time, countless tiny specks of red light began to appear over the ground, and a colony of red fire ants burrowed their way out of the earth, reducing everything in their wake to molten lava.
"It's her!" Han Li exclaimed in a surprised manner upon seeing this.
"Who is she, Master? An old romantic partner of yours?" Xiaobai asked.
"Quit spouting nonsense!" Han Li snapped as he gave Xiaobai a firm flick to the forehead. "Her name is Chi Meng, and she's a Great Encompassment cultivator with mastery over the laws of fire. Do not take her lightly!"
Xiaobai massaged his own head as he continued to observe the unfolding confrontation.
The fire ants had surrounded the entire area, but they stopped around a hundred feet short of Qu Lin, and it was unclear whether they had stopped under Chi Meng's instructions, or if they had stopped out of their innate fear of Gold Devouring Beetles.
"Hurry up and get him! We've already wasted more than enough time!" a tall man with an elderly voice snapped, and it was clear that he had a rather short temper.
With that, all of the cloaked figures aside from Lan Yan sprang into action.
The tall man was the first to strike, sweeping a sleeve through the air to release seven or eight almighty ghostly monarchs that pounced at Qu Lin in unison.
"So he's the cultivator of soul-related law powers that I detected earlier. His powers are similar to mine, but he's not blessed with the innate attributes that I possess as a Xing Beast, so he's gone down an inferior path to mine," Weeping Soul said in a smug manner.
Qu Lin wasn't fazed in the slightest as he took a step forward, and his foot landed with the sound of a falling mountain.
A burst of golden light erupted in all directions from beneath his feet, scattering all of the fire ants that were converging toward him.
At the same time, he threw a punch forward, and a burst of fiery, golden light erupted out of his fist to engulf all of the ghostly monarchs, tearing them to shreds amid a chorus of ghastly howls.
Immediately thereafter, a vast expanse of scorching fire came crashing down from the crimson cloud above, instantly inundating his entire body, and at the same time, a giant, golden sword that was over a thousand feet in length came plunging down from the heavens, splitting the crimson flames before striking Qu Lin.
