Will of chaos

Chapter 1866 - 1866: Cap 1863 (Edited): I Will Ascend Higher! Part 3

Pov Vecna:

“The universe is crumbling…” (me)

I was in utter and complete despair. The scale of my discovery was beyond my knowledge at the time. It was the end of everything for me. I didn’t know other universes existed, I knew nothing of what I know now, so the only solution was the inevitable end that was approaching so fast.

“(Why is this the most vivid memory in your mind…?)” (????)

“(Only when you are at your lowest does the will to Ascend higher shine through. It was on that day that the first step was taken.)” (me)

I was filled with mixed emotions that day, anger at being right, fear at what I considered inevitable, and despair at the first time of being unable to reach a solution.

It was in this state that I fell to the ground, tears streaming from my eyes, tears at the helplessness I felt. It was my lowest point, where my arrogance became shrapnel.

“There’s nothing to do… there’s nothing to do… die… I’m going to die… everything I built in pieces… Mavor and Urak will die too… everyone will die…” (me)

“(What a beautiful scene, isn’t it~?)” (????)

“(You finally couldn’t deny the fact that your universe was collapsing, but all you think about is yourself…)” (????)

“(The things you created, your achievements, your belongings, your friends, and last of all, only after all this do you look at the true scope of the disaster… so much arrogance and ego…)” (????)

“(Why should I care about people I’ve never met and nations that weren’t in my best interest?)” (me)

“(I’ve never feared death before; everyone dies. As the rational person I’ve always been, I did what I could to create a mark in history to be remembered.)” (me)

“(I created so many things that my name was already taught in (I was still relatively young, but my name had already made an unforgettable mark on history.)” (me)

“(But if the universe were lost, then that mark would also be erased, I would be forgotten as just another insect in the face of natural phenomena.)” (me)

I could remain calm, but I couldn’t stop the memories. Seeing my weakened state in the memories was disgusting. Even accepting that it was the driving force behind me getting to where I am, it’s not pleasant to see yourself at your worst.

Baamm! Baamm!

Baammm!!

“Vecna!!” (Mavor)

“…” (me)

“Hajak! Open the door!” (Mavor)

“[I’m sorry, Doctor Mavor, Doctor Vecna has requested that you keep him from being disturbed for the next few hours.]” (Hajak)

“Damn old thing! How is Vecna doing now!?” (Mavor)

“[Doctor Vecna’s vital signs are unstable, his blood pressure is above acceptable limits, his heart rate is 160 per minute, his brain waves are…]” (Hajak)

“Mavor command code 782201! Reset Doctor Vecna’s orders!” (Mavor)

“Now open this damn door!” (Mavor)

“[Processing…]” (Hajak)

“[Welcome, Doctor Mavor.]” (Hajak)

“(That’s right, that’s when he came to me after hearing my screams.)” (me)

Mavor knocked on the door. I could hear him and the argument he had with Hajak, but I couldn’t care less compared to the agony my mind was enduring in that endless loop of frustration.

After that Mavor kept rocking me until I came to my senses, he took me out of my own head and took me to where Urak was already doing something on the computer, I didn’t even try to see what it was.

My condition was horrible, but after feeling so awful, I began to think of possible solutions. There had to be something to be done, but each solution was worse than the last. At that time, I didn’t have the knowledge I have today. I didn’t know about other universes or the energies of nature.

Days passed since then, and memories seemed to race through those parts as if they weren’t important. But it was during those days that I took care of myself. I needed to regain my physical and mental health before trying anything else. I couldn’t let myself be carried away by emotions that weren’t helpful.

That day, I returned to the laboratory and noticed it was empty. I thought it was strange and continued on to the main room where I found those two. They had dull looks. Urak had red eyes, and Mavor had a thinner face. Even so, they both still looked better than I did, and I was only able to sleep with medication.

“(What happened in that room…?)” (????)

“(You’re inside my head, so you clearly already know what happened.)” (me)

“(Going rogue? How about I let the Curse take your Existential Spark and your consciousness?)” (????)

Suddenly, the memory sped up a bit and the sound of everything faded. This damn thing was threatening me, but there wasn’t much I could do here. This thing wanted to achieve something clear, and I needed to find out more about this thing that could affect the power of the Concept. If it really was an Entity, I needed to know which Entity it might be and when I came into contact with it.

I needed to buy time, so I could only keep playing its game and see where it would lead.

“(During the days I was away, Mavor and Urak reviewed my studies as well as the simulations Hajak had run. I didn’t have to explain much for them to understand, fortunately.)” (me)

“(What followed was a discussion about what we should do next; none of us would sit around waiting to die.)” (me)

“(Mavor wanted to create a ship to survive the collapse of the universe, an idea that was immediately discarded. Even without counting the costs, it would take too long to create something like that, and we wouldn’t even know if it would work; we would only have one chance to prove it.)” (me)

“(Urak wanted to figure out how to prevent the collapse, something that was theoretically possible, but at the time impractical. At least it was a more reasonable idea than the one Mavor had presented.)” (me)

“(But I presented something different. There was no point in making plans at that moment. We would have to focus on studying before acting. We lack knowledge of the fundamentals of the universe before anything else.)” (me)

“(Yes, but that’s not all you discussed, is it~~?)” (????)

“(…)” (me)

Suddenly, as if timed, the sound of memories returns as everything slows down at the exact moment Urak points to his holographic screens where a map of our world lay. Mavor and she exchange a glance before he motions for her to speak.

“We need to take control of the world!” (Urak)

“The research this time is too important. We’ll need to stop all other projects and dedicate ourselves purely to this, but at the same time, we’ll need a lot of materials, we’ll need other scientists, and also manpower.” (Mavor)

“Politicians may not believe our words either, and even if they do, they’ll act based on their interests, which may not be the same as ours.” (Urak)

“If the fact that the universe is beginning to collapse becomes known to the population, it will generate widespread panic, and the chances of everything rapidly devolving into anarchy are very high.” (Urak)

“You want to dominate the world to ensure social stability, economic funds, and control over resources. I understand that, but even if it were possible, it would still be a waste of time, which we desperately need right now.” (me)

“A necessary waste of time.” (Mavor)

“Exactly, we need to ensure total stability to focus on what matters; that should be the first step.” (Urak)

“Do you even have a plan?” (me)

“(The first universe you conquered was the Universe itself, right?)” (????)

“(We needed total stability with maximum freedom of action; Urak was right about that.)” (me)

Governments back then weren’t so bad. The world was militarily peaceful, and the economy was stable with a unified currency. But that didn’t change the fact that within each government there were greedy people and internal schemes. Not to mention that the leaders weren’t geniuses. Some rulers were in that position because they were born into the royal family, others because they were elected purely on their charisma, and there were also those who achieved their position through coups d’état decades ago. None of them would agree to join hands in peace to save the universe.

Governments were good at mobilizing resources, money, and organizing the people, but beyond that, they were selfish systems that served to control the masses. In the end, everything would be delayed by bureaucracy and self-serving agendas, with multiple unnecessary meetings to keep leaders informed. Not to mention the high chances of information leaking to the public, and at that point, anarchy could happen, as Urak predicted.

I was too focused on the problem at the time and didn’t consider the bigger picture. Urak was always better at looking at the bigger picture.

“(Now tell me, dear conqueror~… how did you conquer your world?)” (????)

“(The first step was using micro-machines with bombs to control the rulers. We had to put in place multiple safeguards to ensure it would work at all times. This allowed us the initial level of control.)” (me)

“(After that, we took control of all the information systems. Hajak did almost everything with Urak supervising.)” (me)

“(Finally, we created automated factories for autonomous mechanicals that we used as an army. With this power, we were able to conquer the entire planet in one fell swoop before anyone realized it.)” (me)

“(The colonies on other planets were even easier at this point, since we had absolute power in our hands.)” (me)

“(This all took a few months, and after that, we handed over control of everything to Hajak, giving only specific instructions.)” (me)

“(We were able to obtain everything we needed for the next decade of research, it was all so calm that it was suffocating with the clock hands ticking above our heads.)” (me)
